73 Westend, Balallan, Isle of Lewis

It was lovely to have the space and independence at the same time the hosts were very welcoming and very helpful. They even gave us access to their washing machine! The location is very central and easy to get to all the areas we want to see.

Enthusiastic greeting, showing how to operate the washing machine free of charge including free washing liquid for allergic people.Also an outside washing line with pegs if needed. In the bedroom a box (see photo) with writing paper, envelopes, pen and post it note, something very rare now a days. As the establishment is 20 plus minutes drive from Stornoway and 35 minutes drive from Tarbert Ferry port, only small convenience stores are 7-9 minutes drive, the bathroom cupboard holds so many items ( see photo). Pantry and fridge well stocked for breakfasts, the most I have ever seen. Downstairs rooms had TV for watching Netflix and cable channels free. The bedroom TV and a variety of free channels.

The main light to the downstairs kitchenette/lounge room ceased to operate having only the upstairs light able to illuminate the stairs down making it impossible to see what was in the other open plan rooms below. A safety issue which hopefully will be remedied before the next people arrive. More kitchen utensils for cooking; need a sharp knife, egg flip, ladling spoons etc, very rudimentary with three bamboo cooking implements. The electric twin top heating elements with oven below, the elements couldn’t be used together, had to use each individually. Oven was good. Made Spaghetti Bol in small pots and oven baked chicken with boiled vegetables for two nights there.

Loved our stay. Perfect cosy accomodation. Great hosts, good location. Would definently stay again.

Great separate area of the house, comfy bed, great selection of breakfast/lunch foods, clean bathroom and overall a relaxing space to chill out while after exploring the island.

Mirko and Janet were excellent and very friendly hosts. Mirko gave lots of advice on where to go and what to see. The apartment was spotless clean, comfy bed, fantastic location. They had thought of everything you could possibly need. Excellent.

Having to come home

Mirko has been a wonderful host. He and his family made us feel at home. Would definitely recommend and if we get the chance, we will come back!

Fantastic. It was great to have the sitting room and kitchen facilities. The hosts had thought of everything oven down to spare batteries for tv remote control 😄
