Great host, delicious breakfast, amazing views!

An amazing stay at a true rural idyll of a location in a fabulous traditional farmhouse. Stunning views from the bedroom, super-comfy bed, lovely room & breakfast & a fab host. And we even got the bonus of playing with the merry band of lambs & baby goats who skipped around the farmyard in the morning!

We stayed here last year (see my review from July 2023) and, as we were returning for a couple of days in the same area, it was a no-brainer to stay here again. Same room, same great view over the fell, same calm tranquility, same warm, friendly hospitality only, this time, better weather. Nothing fancy or pretentious, just a comfortable and homely working farmhouse where you immediately relax to the gentle background sounds of bleating sheep. A great base for a short getaway in the western Lake District.

To be honest what makes this for us is the host and owner, Claire. She was welcoming, warm and friendly and went the extra mile, even taking my leaking boots into the drying room without being asked on the second day we stayed (I had asked her the first day but she wasn't around when we got back from our wet walk on the second day and I had left them in the boot tray downstairs. ) The farm is lovely and so very peaceful with wonderful views and well placed for both the west lakes (or the rest of the lakes depending on how long you want to spend in the car) and the coast. Room was comfortable and large and the en suite good with a powerful and warm shower and radiators to dry towels on. Breakfast was good and Claire was flexible with the options on offer. Gosforth, the nearby village has pubs and a restaurant (book in advance for the latter) and a fantastic village bakery with plenty of choices on the menu. There are also plenty of other pubs which offer food in the area , detail on these and walks in the area were in our room in the information pack. We would stay here again as it met and even exceeded some of our expectations, was so scenic and peaceful and was a good base for us.

The location is beautiful and close to outdoor hiking trails and very pretty scenery. Clare was a wonderful and friendly host who provided us with comfort, a well-appointed room with ensuite and a wide choice for breakfast, and even a little chocolate treat with cuppas at night 🌙 😋

Claire was a great host; greeted us upon arrival, showed us to our room and left us to settle in straight away. The room was super clean and the attention to detail really made a difference. Claire cooked an excellent breakfast in the morning to get us ready for scafell. Claire was able to give us suggestions and answer any questions about the local area. Overall, an amazing stay.

Comfortable and spacious room with view over distant hills. Clare a very helpful and friendly host. Very good breakfast. Quiet and peaceful location, a great base for walking in Eskdale, Wasdale and Ennerdale and exploring the Cumbrian coast. Plenty of good places to eat in the area. We really enjoyed our stay.
