The Charlton Arms

The room was spacious, the view from the balcony which was part of the room provides an excellent view and was the main reason we booked that specific room. The bed was very comfortable. The coffee machine was a nice touch, and the supplied capsules kept us going throughout our stay. If you book an evening reservation for dinner which I do recommend, book in advance along when booking your room, as it was excellent.

The room was extremely hot due to the unfortunate timing of a heatwave. Even though we had the balcony and windows, the sun was directly at our room from lunchtime through to late evening. There was a fan in the room, but this did not help, and resulted in a poor night’s sleep, the room would hugely benefit from Air con to counteract hot weather. The bathroom was lovely, and we had a bath with the shower hose attached to the taps, but due to the position of the bath, it was impossible to stand and have a shower if you are a tall person, which I was, which was a shame.

Lovely location right on the river, we were upgraded free to a suite. Beautiful large, clean rooms, well appointed, enormous bathroom. Lovely friendly, helpful staff. Excellent food and wine, the fennel tarte tatin was one of the most delicious things I’ve had in a while, and a perfect panacotta dessert. Breakfast was very good too.

A matter of personal taste - I’m always a bit sad when rooms in a traditional building are modernised in a style which doesn’t match the character and age of the building. So while our room was very spacious, comfortable and well appointed with a terrace right on the lovely river, it didn’t float my boat style wise. I’m sure most people would love it, just not for me.

A superb hotel in a lovely position right on the riverside. The rooms are spacious with quality furniture and great views of the river. Breakfast was superb and all the staff were extremely helpful, happy and polite. We. Look forward to our next visit.

Building clean. Great location and plenty of parking.

Poor sound proving in bedrooms. Poor selection of cereals, fruit and bread at breakfast.

Nothing not to like from our perspective.

The staff particularly Jane were excellent and the food was very good.

The room was very small and was upstairs which made it very hard for my wife.
