Very relax place and in a good position to Calakmul. The staff in very kind and offer us a goog breakfast with tropical fruit.

This place exceeded our expectations, simple room but it was very comfortable, provides all that you need for a short stay. The yard is so gorgeous and well kept, it was amazing to chill there after a long ride. Super comfortable for an early trip to Calakmul. They also provide small breakfast for free. The hosts are lovely.

Ants in the bathroom, but nothing awful.

Air conditioning. Hot shower and wifi. There is a complementary breakfast offered by the owner.

There are almost no plugs to charge the mobile phones. We had to unplug the fridge to charge our phones at night. There is no hair dryer; we had one with us and when we plugged it the electricity went down. There was a huge insect in the bathroom (which is kind of ok, but the doors do not close properly and insects, small ones, enter all the time). The host told us that there is just one restaurant in the village and that closes at 18, but that in the next village we can have dinner at his restaurant. However there is one open restaurant until 23 in the village of Bacan, which is so small, it is impossible not to know it. When we came back from the restaurant we found the gate closed with a chain and we got lucky there was someone there to open. We had to shout so he could hear us and open the door. No one informed us the gate would close. Finally the neighbour had a party with extremely loud music till late at night (1am), which did not help when waking up early to visit Calakmul. This is however not a problem of the hotel.

if you are in the area to see the Mayan sites this place is excellent. Much more quiet and relaxing than staying in Xpujil. There are two quality restaurants within walking distance. Cute and comfortable cabins in a beautiful little area with chickens and an adorable cat that greeted us when we arrived.

Otoch Béek is very basic, very cheap and very rural in a very small and poor village. Do not expect luxury. But the atmosphere, the setting and the unexpected help from the attendant, including the best breakfast I had (not mentioned in the info beforehand) made me feel in tune with the Calakmul Biosphere. In short, it fits with the forest and the remoteness of Calakmul. There is one restaurant 100 yards away where one can eat real local food, in no way dollied up for tourists. Simple but true. One can walk to the Becan ruins (a must, but mostly ignored by visitors, yet more impressive than many of the other usual tourist attractions)

There is very little not to like, but I can imagine some visitors being uncomfortable with the simplicity of Becan and the lodgings. It is necessary, though, to understand that anyone who wants to visit the Calakmul ruins properly will need to sleep in the area for 2 nights. Calakmul is 120 km away on partly bad roads. Visiting Calakmul and Becan definitely requires one full day. And in this part of the world one does not drive in the dark. Thus, 2 nights in Becan should be the minimum.

A nice room in the garden with excellent outside seating. An excellent base to visit Calukmul. Pleasant breakfast. Local restaurant of El Xate a real plus. Fabulous food 400 m away.

Could do with more electric plugs! Too friendly chickens!

Close to Calakmul and probably the best option in the area. Owners were nice and accommodating. They packed us breakfast to go the day we went to Calakmul which was very thoughtful.

The first room we were given turned out to have a broken AC unit. We asked for help with it at 10:00 pm our first night and they came and “fixed” it. It stopped working again in the middle of the night which made sleeping impossible. We couldn’t open the windows to get air in because there were no mosquito nets over the bed. The room also lacked a regular fan. It was cooler outside than in our room. We told them it broke again the next morning so they moved us to the room next door. This one was much nicer and had mosquito nets and a working ac unit. There was no one in the room the night before so I wonder why they would put us in the lesser room in the first place. Ultimately, they put us in a good room and we got one good night of sleep.
