Beautiful grounds and house. We had a rest day here during our long distance cycle tour. John and Elizabeth were incredibly welcoming and hospitable and made us feel very very welcome. If we're ever in the area again, we will certainly stay with them again. Thank you once again for everything.

John and Elizabeth are lovely hosts, nothing is to much trouble. And Minty is adorable. There is ample parking, beautiful views, a home from home. Hopefully see them all next year 😁

We stayed for one night at Barnfields Retreat in a double-bedroom with en suite shower room and a lovely little balcony (table and chairs included) overlooking the huge rear garden and adjoining paddock. We were met by our lovely host, John, who welcomed us into his 'quite unique' home.. The room was very nice, with a little fridge filled with complimentary soft drinks, which proved very welcome during the recent heatwave! John also provided us with a jug of fresh milk to put in the fridge...for our teas and coffees in the room. Breakfast was delicious, served with care and attention by John. It included cereals, fresh strawberries, yoghurt, toasted bread....and lovely toasted croissants. A great start to our day! There was plenty of parking at Barnfields and a number of eating places for an evening meal within a reasonable distance (plenty in Clacton-on-Sea). We enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend Barnfields to future visitors. Thank you, John!

One small point: The en suite door appeared to be slightly warped and, therefore, wouldn't close properly.

The property is fantastic and in a really good position,we had lovely views of the grounds from our Balcony. John was great he was always on hand. We would like to thank John and Elizabeth for making our long weekend a wonderful stay. Also Mitty the day is really friendly. Thank you John and Elizabeth.

Warm and friendly greeting by John. Great room with balcony overlooking the garden. Cold drink and milk in mini fridge were complementary. Good continental breakfast in pleasant surroundings. Friendly chat with John before we left.

Two small points: 1) bathroom door did not always stay shut so had to put bath mat against it to ensure privacy 2) bathroom sink drain and waste area could have been cleaner

I really liked John and her dog Minty. And we did enjoy the balcony on room 5 to have dinner and the continental breakfasts we had.(Although I missed to have some hot homemade options). We also appreciated that John provided us with some breakfast at 7:30 am on a Sunday as there are no coffee shops around the house and we wanted to have a early walk. Thank you as well for having a little fridge on the room with some complimentary options.

When we entered to the bathroom, you could smell cigarette scent . It might be attached to the floor mat or some ashes maybe were missing on the cleaning but that wasn't pleasant. Also we paid to be let's put it this way , in the middle of nowhere just to have a quiet time but unfortunately because the room is not soundproof, we had 2 girls who arrived at 12 (There are no restrictions on the time of arrival) and they were talking not stop until 1am when I had to bang on the wall but still they continued and then they were puking so, not the night I was hoping for. And the bed to us, which we are both 1.80 m, was small and not the comfiest we have slept. And I have to say that you don't expect to be really clean in a room that has access to a field but there were some hair on the shower and the mirror was dirty on our arrival and definitely needs to be painted and cleaned in depth.
