Luxurious Homestay- Chandīgarh

It was really unique experience, lovely neighborhood, impressive home and very very friendly and charismatic hosts.

As a budget traveller, I had some reservations about the 'Luxurious' tag, but these turned out to be unfounded. While the property is in a very smart and convenient location, at the same time it has character and domestic comfort. The room was spotlessly clean and equipped with everything you could need. 'Homestay' is also a perfectly apt description. The hosts were very welcoming and personable, and made me feel entirely at home. Chandigarh is an untypically ordered city and very green with a wide variety of parks. It is of huge significance for its architecture, but also has a wealth of pleasing outdoor spaces, notably the Rock Garden, as well as museums and galleries.

Nothing much lacking from my point of view. Chandigarh has plenty of shops and street food outlets. I didn't see any upmarket dining places but I wasn't really looking for that.

It was a pleasant location , a bit stuffy but quiet and clean with lovely trees and greenery. The room was very clean.

Firstly we were not aware we would have to pay by cash. My husband had his card stolen and this was the end of our India trip so we had to complete a lengthy expensive bank transfer. The breakfasts were not as described , just small parantha type bread, curd and a tea or Nescafé. The worse thing was the owner who was there at the table waiting for us as soon as we stepped out of our bedroom and sat with us for the whole breakfast; She spoke *at* us with some questionable opinions about darker skins. We are a mixed race family and it left us feeling very uncomfortable . We realise this may be cultural but as Londoners and tourists it was quite shocking. The lovely shared space in the photos was not available, just a mediocre bedroom with harsh lighting, an air conditioner that didn’t work. As you walk out of the bedroom you come straight into the kitchen, there is really very little privacy.

The hosts of this home are simply lovely, and the area is stunningly beautiful, well situated and safe. It is a large private room with an ensuite attached. Breakfast is provided, along with conversation with the hosts - a lonely way to start the day.
