The Vdara gives you a fantastic location, comfortable suite rooms, and quick proximity to the restaurants, gaming, and nightlife of the Aria, Cosmopolitan, and Bellagio --- all at slightly discounted prices compared to those three hotels. Even Cesar's is a reasonable walking distance. Ultimately, it delivers tremendous value where it counts, with few or minor drawbacks. Let me explain:
Tucked directly behind the Cosmopolitan, and adjacent to the Bellagio -- but physically connected to both via an indoor walkway -- sits the Vdara. It is literally a two-minute walk to either. Its main entrance also shares a roundabout with the Aria, which can be reached via a one-minute, outdoor walkway. This central location is virtually unbeatable. If you like to eat, game, or party at any of these three other hotels/casinos, you can't really do better than to stay at the Vdara. Even if you're not interested in those hotels, this location is basically center-strip and fantastic as a home base for walking other places.
Next up, the Vdara is affiliated with the Aria, so guests have access to the Aria's pool and gym. I used both, and both are nice. The gym is a decent size, with aerobic machines and a reasonable amount of weight machines and a large dumbbell rack. It's not as extensive as the gym at the Venetian/Pallozo (for comparison), but is still quite nice and will get you through your stay. It has a pleasant view of the Aria pool. And the Aria pool is one of my favorites - surrounded by trees and vegetation. I went in December and they had one pool heated to a lukewarm temperature and then three jacuzzis churning for guests. The food and drinks poolside were expensive but tasty. This is a great pool area.
My room at the Vdara was a suite (as I think all are). This means that you have not only a bed, but a little den/hang out area, as well as a small kitchenette! Very comfortable. Some of the suites are through the hotel itself, while others are privately- owned (but still rentable as a de-factor hotel room and still cleaned by housekeeping). I personally booked a straight hotel room using the hotwire.com website. But I noticed that the privately-owned suites were also on Hotwire and even cheaper (if you're looking to save even more money). Plus, my understanding from the hotel is that if you book one of the privately-owned suites, you also get access to a laundry room! Another meaningful perk.
Other reviews have mentioned that the Vdara and its rooms might be in need of a refresh as the decor is starting to show its age - and yeah, there were noticeable dings in the wood paneling that is dominant throughout the room -- and the furniture appeared slightly worn . . . but when I arrived that first day, it was immaculately clean. Housekeeping did a great job every day refreshing the room as well. So bottom line - while the rooms show their age, they are ultimately clean, well-appointed, and still handsome. I was very pleased with the room.
The lack of dining options something to also be aware of. First, there's a real restaurant/bar in the lobby with a nice menu full of reasonably-prices entrees for both breakfast and dinner. I ate breakfast there twice and it was great. Second, there's a 24-hour "mini-mart" with emergency personal items for sale, alcohol, soft drinks, and a limited food menu. Very handy. And last, there's a Starbucks that opens at 6 a.m. every day. They have room service, but I found that so outrageously expensive I didn't bother with it. That's it. BUT . . . the dining options are not a real drawback, because you can just walk to the Cosmo, Bellagio, or ARIA so quickly and take advantage of any of their food halls or restaurants. In fact, the buffet at the Cosmo is literally the first thing you encounter when you use the walkway to the Cosmo - it's two minutes away. Don't let the Vdara's relatively few food options stop you from staying here!
Other meaningful things to note of the Vdara:
- completely nonsmoking hotel and rooms
- dog-friendly, with an outdoor dog park
- kitchenettes in the rooms, so no hassles about taking food/drinks up to room
- ATM in the lobby
- comfortable seating and waiting areas in the lobby
- friendly and helpful staff at check-in
- car parking at the ARIA only (drawback? but at least there's a parking option)
Overall, I was so pleasantly surprised by the Vdara. It's perfect for solo travelers, young professionals, couples or adults. I'd say it's also great for families. I didn't really notice any roving packs of 20-year olds renting a room together (even though the suite-like rooms with their kitchens would be perfect for that).
I usually like to stay at a new hotel every time I go to Vegas, just for the adventure, but I will definitely consider coming back here. This might be my new "go-to." Cheers!
