CARRA KONAĞI

If you have made it all the way to Mardin you will certainly love staying at Carra Conaği. It is right in the middle of the old town so is in walking distance of much of what you've come to see. Plenty of restaurants and cafes close by. A fabulous breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace overlooking the Plains of Mesopotamia in one direction and the old city with its spires and minarets in the other. Great wifi, spacious bathroom, and a huge, comfortable bed. It's down a little lane off the main road. Nevertheless, the staff are happy to organise small taxis to pick you up for outings further afield.

You could never meet better people than the staff in the hotel, Ismael, Isra and Mohamed were among the best people I’ve ever met and incredibly helpful, you feel like they are family, but the hotel furniture is very outdated, electricity goes out often which leaves you with no wifi or hot water, we stayed there 3 days , we were unable to shower because we never had hot water in the morning, the mold in the bathroom was horrendous, you cannot breath in the bathroom from the smell of the black mold although we left the window open 24hours a day in freezing temperatures. We miss the staff dearly but we were so happy to leave the hotel . This place needs major work and is not worth the money, I wouldn’t want to stay there not even for free.

Their bathrooms are the absolute worst.

Garnicht! Es ist garnicht wie auf den Bildern! Lassen Sie sich BITTE nicht täuschen - es war extrem schlecht- das Badezimmer hat gestunken- die Toilette war locker also nicht festgeschraubt und man konnte garnicht richtig abspülen. Die Nacht war für uns ein APLTRAUM. Auf das Frühstück haben wir komplett verzichtet weil die Konditionen schon so schlecht waren..... Die Bilder sind nur eine ILLUSION. VG

Ismail made a great effort arranging the shuttle bus driver to bring me near to the hotel from the Mardin airport and waited for me to greet me to take my luggage to the hotel, since the hotel is located on a steep hill. I appreciated his personal efforts and the warm welcome.

The room I stayed had a very strong sewer smell which made it very uncomfortable to stay in the room and sleep. Ismail tried to mask the smell but this was a little help. In addition to this, every-time the toilet was used, there was a serious leakage of waste water, this was a hygiene concern. There was no wardrobe or any space for any luggage. The room was very small and did not have enough space around to walk. My luggage had deep scratch marks due to rough structure of the walls and limited space to try to open it. My clothes had dust from the walls and the floor. The room did not look too clean either, a lot of dust on the floor and the sheets were quite wrinkled, not sure whether it was changed after the previous guests. The room had only one small window located at a section facing the stairs going up to the second level, where there was very busy activity with people and staff going up and down. This required me to keep the curtains closed at all times for the privacy, making the room quite claustrophobic. When I highlighted these issues with the staff, I was told to feel free to go to another hotel ( which was not possible since it was already close to midnight and it was hard to find a place at that time).
