Cobblestone Hotel & Suites - Ottumwa

We have stayed at the Cobblestone Hotel in Ottumwa Iowa three times. It is located in a very convenient location. Walking distance to trails, soccer fields, and Bridgeview Center. We especially enjoyed the paved walking trail along the river. The hotel rooms are quiet, clean, the beds are comfortable and the staff is responsive. Erin who checked us in was most helpful, knowledgeable and always offered anything to make our stay better. We appreciated Erin’s kindness and efficiency!

I originally came to this hotel by the recommendation of a client. I normally stay at Marriott and Hilton properties but alas Ottumwa doesn't have any. :(. I checked in late and was very tired. The front desk attendant was beyond helpful and I felt as if I was going to have a pleasant stay in which I did. The steak restaurant was nice and the manager came over to my table and was genuinely pleasant. So far so good. :). NOW THE BAD: I travel for a living so I was in a rush and forgot to make my reservation for a room here. That's on me. When I arrived I was greeted by a new hire and the GM. The new hire was very pleasant but the GM was rude and condescending. She was borderline disrespectful. I do know that she will read this and YES you knew you were! I would call out your name like the other complaints about you on here and since you were so kind enough (sarcasm) to give me your business card when I asked for it because you knew I wasn't happy with your conduct but clearly you didn't care but I will spare calling your name out nationwide. What happened. Well you greeted me as if I was a transient since YES admittedly I forgot to reserve a room. Marriott would have skipped the rudeness and just found me a room. You were condescending because you acted as if I didn't have the means to pay for the room. Saying TWICE in a direct manner with a condescending tone. "YOU WILL NEED A LICENSE AND CREDIT CARD!" As if I didn't have either. You acted as if I were homeless asking me if my address was correct on my license?! Never had that question before even when I stayed at your property the first time and NEVER at ANY other hotel chains. To be honest I am not accustomed to being treated like that so I was taken aback. You were so condescending in fact that I just kept looking at you and said "Is there a problem?!" In retrospect I wish I wasn't so road fatigued because I would have just walked out and wrote a formal complaint letter to corporate. Would I stay here again?.....what do you think my YouTube followers who also follow my Yelp reviews. As most of you know that I am a soldier who was wounded in service for my country. All you Veterans nation wide know me and supported me when I had iron clad proven issues with a major jewelry store chain and the largest wireless company in America they both acquiesced with your support, thank you! I never have said this before but I say now that this GM is a bigot and clearly has issues even when she told me to have a nice stay it was condescending. Respectfully GM respect your guest leave any personal bigotry you have at your home. There is no room in the service industry for "KARENS" respectfully speaking. FYI GM you do NOT want to escalate this with me. I read the other complaints about YOU on here and other review sites. I have talked to clients in Ottumwa about my experience here. I recommend for you to DO BETTER! Good day.

Pet friendly! Nice stay but 1 bed had dirt on sheets under the covers. Wife found bed somewhat uncomfortable but was fine for me. Overall

Amazing place and very friendly people. I will definitely come back here and stay more days to enjoy the nature and service

We were dealing with the illness then death of my dad. The staff was very compassionate and helpful in getting our stay extending and not having to change rooms. A great staff.

Another stay at Cobblestone Hotel was great as usual. We always stay here when visiting Ottumwa. Megan and Patty are great and work hard to provide a positive experience for their guests. Everything is clean and comfortable. Great beds and pillows! Good variety for breakfast. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Always enjoy our stays here!

I don’t like complaining. But I have to be brutally honest if I have a bad experience at a hotel. I stayed at the cobblestone hotel in ottumwa on Friday, 8/29/25. I checked in at 3:00. My room 205 was on the 2nd floor & the window is completely blocked by the canopy out front. I go to the front desk and ask if I can have a different room. They asked if I had already been up there. Well duh! That’s how I saw the monstrous black thing blocking the window. She said, “housekeeping already left”. There are no more King suites like the one I booked. I asked if I could get a discount on the room. She couldn’t do that. She wouldn’t even offer me a free bottle of water. They’re sitting in the room for sale $5 each! I deserved something to say “we apologize that your room has a completely blocked view”. But apparently, keeping a room with zero view was better than the other side of the hotel that faced the highway, “people said it was very noisy” according to the front desk clerk. The ceilings are made out of paper because the guy upstairs was either Bigfoot or a man on a horse. It was boom boom boom for about an hour. The lightbulb in the bathroom was flickering and I swear I almost had a stroke. I couldn’t even take a shower because the strobe light was really affecting my eyes! I will never stay at this hotel again & I do not recommend it. The one single highlight was the restaurant attached to the hotel. The Happy Hour was 4-6, 1/2 price beers, on a perfect night on the patio.

We were in town for one night visiting family. This hotel was convenient, had easy access to many dining options as well as an upscale restaurant on site. Rooms were clean, had a microwave and refrig., and choice of soft or “hard” pillows. Pool was down for maintenance but we wouldn’t have needed it anyway. Breakfast was very nice-nice variety and even hot options. Parking good, street noise out front but I appreciated the view vs the side facing parking lot. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Will definitely stay again.
