Chestnut Inn at Oquaga Lake

The lake. Continental breakfast. Staff good

The room we booked on booking.com not what we asked for. Good very expensive. Canoes and kayaks not maintained well. Steps leading down to water in the are of canoes slimy and slippery. We helped a woman who slipped and fell there. Rooms very small without a place to hang clothes only one dresser, no chair. Had to sit on bed. No instructions how to use TV or air/heat conditioner. Portable one that took up a lot of room. Bathroom tub did not drain. Not worth the money charged. Lacked enough staffing which meant long wait times.

Breakfast was adequate, location lovely, staff most friendly and accommodating. We happened to be there on Kentucky Derby weekend which the staff made sure we enjoyed.

Dinner menu was a bit limited but the food was very good.

An example of the wonderful staff: We didn't really have time for a full breakfast. On Saturday morning, we were rushing off for camp visiting day at my grandson's camp. We told the manager that we didn't have time for a full breakfast and could we just have some coffee and what else was there that was quick? A continental breakfast appeared (pastries and muffins) and we were able to hit the road in 30 minutes! We really appreciated the service...done with a smile and a "is everything alright?" However, dinner was outstanding each night we were there. The best is Friday Prime Rib night - some of the best prime rib I have had recently! And the wait staff is outstanding! Professional, courteous and very kid-friendly!

Between breakfast and the bar opening at 4:00 pm, there is nothing available as far as any kind of refreshments. Since The Chestnut Inn is in a very residential area on Lake Oquaga, there is no convenience store or quick mart to pick up drinks or snacks (nothing closer than 9 miles away being the closest town). Additionally, if there is nothing available at The Inn, suggest that rooms have small refrigerators to house some drinks and snacks! Or, in the alternative, even some vending machines could work.

we love the lake and the quaint inn. The restaurant staff are very young and sweet but new at waiting tables for example coffee comes without cream or sugar unless you ask. The food is pricey but the view is great the main course did not come with a salad for example fancy mac n cheese but nothing else. The lake is pristine but the ladder into the water was wonky and needed the first step repaired. the room is cute. It’s very relaxing there. The breakfast was great.
