"Great value - Love staying here!"

10.0

Another reviewer put it perfectly - if you like clean and economical and are OK with fun and cheesy, this is your place! Awesome location for most places in Dubuque. If you are into fancy or worried because things are older (but still clean) Don't stay here, you will not like it. We had 5 adults and got what we call the honeymoon suite - obviously it is not - but it has 3 double beds in it and lots of room for additional cot we brought from home. The bedroom part is separate from the kitchen sitting area which was perfect for extra dressing room and us early risers did not wake everyone else up. We go because of the casinos and my son goes to Platteville, but when we go all 5 or 6 of us go and for $85 a night really? Such a deal! try staying in a regular hotel and have this much room! The casino shuttle stops right in front, just ask the desk to call and they normally come fast! First night we went to Mystique and shuttle was good. We then came back and hit the Rainbow Lounge, sometimes overly packed, this time just enough to have fun and drinks, lots of drinks lol! Next day we decided to stay in the area and were able to walk to dinner at the Shot Tower. We did get a ride to Jubecks which is a craft beer place we love too! Love that you can walk right over to the Riverfront. Hit Diamond Joes couple of times, could have gone to winery there or many other places. One more item we love, we bring our own bagels and drinks and such and there is a fridge and a table with 4 chairs, love that! Our room also had a toaster and counters in the kitchen area, lots of room! We will always stay here when we come to Dubuque, why pay so much more for so much less, just because the décor is from way back! We dont use a pool anyway, and we don't order room service, so who cares! Beds are comfy, and all is clean, and great service at the desk!

"Nice "mom and pop" hotel"

10.0

This is my "go to" hotel when I come to Dubuque to visit family. Not a fancy place, but the staff is friendly, it's a great value, and they have a nice karaoke bar. The atmosphere is best described as "eclectic", like before the big chains took over. Wi fi is available in the lobby. As a bonus, if you are into Dubuque history, you might get a chance to talk with Bob, the owner. It's close to the casino and many Dubuque landmarks!

"Mom and daughters weekend "

Nice, clean room. We were very pleased with our stay. We enjoyed the Rainbow Lounge. Went nw to Balltown and ate at Breitbach's. Beautiful scenery! We visited, shopped, and plan on bringing our other family members to experience the activities of the area.

"Fun!"

8.0

Stayed one night while on a birthday getaway weekend. The staff was super nice and helpful. The rooms were clean and we'll furnished. We went to the karaoke lounge attached to the hotel and had a great time! I would definitely recommend and hope to return again someday.

"Decent"

8.0

I was skeptical at first to stay at this hotel. It was like walking through a time machine. The lobby is clean and nice. The room was clean and cozy. Staff was very nice. Only downside is the bathroom. Definitely wins the award for the worlds smallest bathroom. I am glad we stayed there though.

"'Cool' hotel at a very reasonable price!"

8.0

Looking for a hotel at an extremely reasonable rate? This is it. If you like Eclectic decor, and don't mind some mixed furniture in your room, stay here. The rooms were clean. The price was very right! And it's well located to Dubuque downtown attractions! Nothing fancy. But it will suit your needs, and save you money over the chain hotels.

"If Unique is what you seek"

8.0

OK, the place is a little weird, but in a good way. The décor (if you can call it that) is eclectic. Think Grandmas house. A buddy and I took an overnight motorcycle trip from Milwaukee to Dubuque and rooms were either sold out or more than we wanted to pay (think Green Bay when the Packers play) We got a 3 bed "suite" that was clean, spacious and equipped with fridge, coffee maker, toaster and TV's. The shower was clean and the towels were pretty good. Bathroom was small and the sink was out in the bedroom. Odd, but not deal breakers. The staff was very nice and accommodating. After check in we grabbed a couple of cocktails in the Rainbow Lounge off the lobby - the weirdness continued. This bar is 1970's and proud of it. Friendly staff and cheap drinks. Karaoke is the claim to fame and it brings 'em in, locals and travelers. Would I stay here with my wife for a romantic weekend? No. Would I stay here again if I was on a bike trip the guys? Absolutely A good place to stay, close to bars and restaurants and the Casino is a short walk. Open your mind and try something different, something like the old days, something that makes for a good story. Stay at the Canfield

"Loved it!!!!!"

10.0

To the person that was worried about smoke smell. Well, your perfume was too strong for me and made me gag! It is all about being different and seeing others' taste in decorating. I loved it at the Canfield Inn!!! You can stay in the right lane and stay at the cookie-cutter motels/hotels all you want, but I am stepping OUT. The linens were CLEAN, towels FRESH and the people running it, well, they are WONDERFUL!!! This is a four **** place for me! Location, location, location with character. The restaurant across the street is so home-town. Going again soon and cannot wait. You can't buy class, you can't pretend and you can't pass by a wonderful experience!! Thank you , Canfield, for being just as you are!

"Great price and location"

8.0

My husband and I used to own a boat on the Mississippi in Dubuque, so we were familiar with the Canfield, but had never stayed there. We sold our boat about a year ago and were headed up to Madison, WI and wanted to stay in Dubuque in the downtown area on the way up. It was a Saturday night, and to our dismay, all the hotels just about anywhere were booked. So I called the Canfield and they had a room for us. It was under $90 for a night. We stayed on the 5th floor. The decor was definitely unique. Everything was pieced together and nothing really matched. But it was very clean and extremely quiet. We slept until almost 10:00 the next day, which is unheard of for us. But maybe that was the martinis we enjoyed in the Rainbow Lounge before bed! The lounge is like stepping back through a time portal as well, but the karaoke singers were good and the place was fun. We would definitely stay there again. It's probably $150 cheaper per night than any other room downtown. The Sunshine Diner across the street is a great place for breakfast too.

"Don't know yet, going there for a weekend get-a-way."

10.0

I was told by many friends and family " it's a riot", the place is decorated from the 60's-70's very odd and different. I am sick of the same old hotel stay, everything soooo the same...I am looking for some fun and not to be mean but, a good laugh from yesterdays cheap décor. I want to be entertained by everything. Just looking forward to a get-a-way with family and friends that has been there before and hated to leave. So if you are the type that is critical over every little thing and want the best of everything then go stay at the Hampton, Super 8. And pay the price. I am going to the Canfield Hotel and the Rainbow Lounge for that alone, for the experience itself.
