The Publisher, Downtown Fredericksburg, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Was traveling in the area for work meetings use the Bonvoy App and opted to stay at the publisher. Great choice. Large upscale rooms, professional staff. The downstairs bar and restaurant serves great cocktails and ahas a nice wine list. Will stay again.

We really enjoyed the ambience, but looking feel of the property pretty much the accent really improved the overall looking feel of the property.

I loved the design. It was not your ordinary hotel decorations.

The room could have used a full sized mirror.

The Trip Advisor placeholder text for hotel reviews begins, "the pillows are the fluffiest I have ever felt." The Publisher is an excellent hotel. That doesn't mean I don't have a few minor complaints. For one, the pillows are the opposite of fluffy - they're the unsmooshable foam variety- and the mattress also feels a bit firm. Both give me more of a "budget" than "luxury" vibe. One other matter is that the shower has absolutely zero place to put toiletries, so if you prefer to use your own shampoo, conditioner, or soap rather than the bulk products attached to the shower wall, you're out of luck. I usually test out the fitness center -- this one reportedly has a Peloton - but didn't have an opportunity this time. My husband reported that the breakfast was good. There were water bottles in the fridge, more available at the front desk upon request, and a filled cooler with ice water near the front door. The hotel is new, quiet, clean, well-appointed, seemingly well-managed, and the location is great. Our room overlooked a cemetery, which gave it character. I don't recall asking for a balcony room but received one, and even though we used the surface parking lot across the street, no charge appeared on our bill (I assume that's because only a few days before the hotel had ended valet parking in favor of this self-park arrangement and was concerned that many guests might be taken unawares, despite warnings on the website). Fredericksburg is a fantastic town to visit, and so close to DC. You should visit, and you should consider staying at the Publisher when you do.

The Publisher is a beautiful hotel but is incredibly overpriced. My room was $376 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. As part of the Tribute Portfolio, it is incredible that they don’t have room service. My order for the steakhouse located in the lobby produced one incorrect item out of an order for five items and one cold item that should have been hot. I ordered and waited for the food so it didn’t sit and cool off. The quality of the food was good. The fire alarm in the adjoining room (family) went off at 7:20 on Sunday morning. The explanation from the front desk was the shower must have been too hot and triggered the alarm. How often does that happen? The staff was pleasant at the front desk, and especially the gentlemen handling the parking. They were both helpful and kind. Side note- it seems incongruous that they have an espresso maker in the room with regular size mugs. The espresso only fills up the mug by half an inch or less. There is a nice, much more reasonably priced Marriott down the street.
