JOIVY Observatory Unique House on Calton Hill

Perfect location for sightseeing. Everything is close enough, we didn't have to waste time on transportation, easy, just walk everywhere. Beautiful sight day and night from around the apartment. The bathroom and kitchen are exceptional, fully equipped and modern.

It's a bit weird, as people are walking around and under the windows of the apartment. The only downside of the otherwise perfect location, as it is also a public park around the top of the hill. I guess, this is still a cheap price to pay for the perfect location.

Das Gebäude ist wirklich wunderschön, die Lage ist super zentral. Da es ein so altes Häuschen ist hört man manchmal die Schritte der Nachbarn darüber, hat uns aber nicht weiter gestört. Ich hätte mir eine bessere Kommunikation über den Check out gewünscht, ansonsten kann ich die Unterkunft von Herzen weiterempfehlen!

Availability of kitchen utensils, cleanliness of the place and large spaces in it

It is difficult to reach it on the first day because it is inside a historical tourist site, in addition to being on a very high hill. The place is scary at night because the area is completely dark and there are no people around you. You will be alone at night... I was forced to cancel my vacation and return to my country... There is no privacy for the guest from the morning until the end of the tourist time in the historical tourist site.

This was a property unlike any other. It was so special and made the whole trip! We felt so special staying here and the views of the city are unparalleled! The cafe next door made for easy coffee in the mornings and cocktails at night. Everyone we met that realized we were staying there were amazed. I cannot recommend it enough!

Beds were very comfortable. Coffee shop next door for morning coffee was helpful. You are literally right in the middle of the national monument on the top of the city - faulting during the day with tourists everywhere but Heaven at night when the crowds disappear. My only complaint was the communication. We had just arrived in Edinburgh and had no idea where to go. The host said there was a spot right out front to temporarily unload our stuff but gave us no other details. The whole process was very stressful. When I texted the same number after check in I never got a response. I ended up emailing Joivy and got a response the next day. If you are familiar with the area and the house, it wouldn’t have been a problem but we were driving in for the very first time and GPS just took us to a wall at the base of the hill…

Amazing location beyond anywhere I have ever stayed, wonderful bed and bathroom with great comfort.

Kitchen smoke detector is directly above cooking range. This makes it impossible to do any real cooking. No smoke at all and the smoke alarm went off and there was no key in the panel to turn it off. Staff did not have the override code so fire alarm went off and they were slow to respond and then never showed up in the hour and 15 min alarm sounding. We ended up talking to the upstairs and their key was in the panel so we used their key to shut the fire alarm down. Someone from on the hill came within a few minutes, but he knew nothing about the home or how to shut it down. Al lot of the fault goes to the UK government, cause the fire standards are clearly way way out of control(a local told me they have theirs go off with a hot shower) but that makes it all the more needed to have a shut down possible. My only assumption is no one cooks in here, or perhaps it goes off often and this has still no been handled. Either way not a great situation but the stay overall was amazing and that was the only real issue.
