Shieling Cottage at Lovelady Shield

Loved the beautiful location, tucked away in the countryside,

Couldn't complain

Firstly, we didn't stay in Sheiling, we were moved to Cobblestone Cottage. Undoubtedly well appointed, almost too much equipment - oven, microwave and air fryer!

Walking in to a smell of stale cigarette smoke. The bathroom! Ugh! Rusty bath, dirty tiles and grouting, a bath panel with sticky backed plastic peeling off, floor tiles lifting, leaking shower head. Not nice.

It was a quiet location. It was clean and comfortable

We weren’t sure how to use the heating

The food in the hotel was good

The road to the property was full of potholes. The oven didn’t work. There were no water glasses. The hot water was not hot.

The night we arrived we heard dripping from the boiler this got louder and when we investigated further a bowl had been placed behind a panel to catch the dripping water the bowl was now full and so we emptied it by 3.30 am the sound of loud dripping woke us up so once again we emptied the bowl and placed more receptacles to catch the water .we also observed water running across the wiring this was worrying so reported this at 8.00 am we received notification that this had been passed on to onsite staff who would get back to us .but as we were planning to go out we called into the hotel where a lovely member of staff came and took a photo of the problem and reported it .when we returned for our key she informed us that a gas safe engineer was needed and and would come later that day so we emptied the bowls several times again and through the night .we left on the Sunday still no engineer could not wait to get home for a rest

Lovely hotel in a peaceful setting. Perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle

Beautiful location (we originate from this area). The staff are very pleasant and so helpful, nothing seems to be too much trouble. Lovely food and very good breakfast. We will be back.

The driveway could be resurfaced. Some extra rails or ramps for disabled people would be most helpful.
