Scalloway Hotel

Went into the hotel bar on Aug 8th for a quiet drink after my brother’s interment and an English male stood at the bar showing half his bottom and not caring. When I went up to tell him that this was impropriate he showed no remorse initially then covered up but disgusting then pulled his track bottoms to show his whole bottom even though I objected previously. I then advised that I had just attended my brother’s funeral and his attitude was he did not care and when it was highlighted to the barmaid she was not interested. This attitude to non local patrons travelling up there was disgustingly as prior to this display the language was not suitable for tourists coming on a visit to Shetland and badly let Scalloway down by the loud, rowdy, lack of caring and bad language behaviour of locals.

Located in the heart of Calloway, this hotel boasts a retro ambiance that evokes a sense of nostalgia. It has recently been renovated while maintaining its identity. The staff is nice.

Fantastic staff who were incredibly helpful. Very good sleep and walkable to everything in Scalloway. Car required for daytrips. Hood parking outside the hotel and a short walk away.

Excellent value for Shetland. Friendly staff and good food . Best fish and chips ever! Comfy bed, hot shower, big towels and well equipped room.

Lovely hotel, Staff very friendly. Room very clean and looked newly done up. Comfy bed. Good choice for breakfast continental and cooked. Had a nice evening meal too. Plenty free parking around hotel. Quite area to walk about, beautiful scenery. Scalloway museum worth a visit.

Friendly staff and comfortable stay.

We visited two days in a row and only decided to return because the experience on the first visit was so nice. For lunch on the first day were served by a lovely young woman who couldn’t have been more helpful and pleasant, and nothing was too much trouble. We both ordered the haddock and were very impressed with it. It was a very generous serve and very fresh. Buoyed by that experience we returned the next day for dinner to try something different on the menu. The service couldn’t have been more different. The person taking our order was almost disinterested in her role and when our drinks finally arrived (lukewarm) they were banged down on the table. Our meals arrived and were also banged down on the table. My friend ordered steak and ale pie and she said it was very nice and was a generous serve. Unfortunately my order of a cheeseburger was beyond awful. The bun was burnt black and the meat pattie was raw with blood clearly running out of it. I took it back and said that I couldn’t eat it. You’d think I’d accused the waitress of deliberately trying to poison me by the reaction I got. No apology, no concern. I had to ask another staff member if I could order the soup instead. I estimated I had to wait another 20 minutes for the soup to arrive and when I asked about its progress they said it was being prepared. When it eventually arrived it too was banged down on the table and the soup had slopped onto the plate. It was a fairly tasteless bowl of what was apparently broccoli soup. All up it took more than an hour from when we first ordered until my soup arrived. Some of the staff would clearly benefit from some basic hospitality training. It is of no benefit to the business to have staff with such a poor attitude.
