Riad Explore - Marrakech Medina Boutique Guest House

The Riad Explore is located right in the heart of the Medina in Marrakech. You are a 5 minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa, but you won't hear the noise from it. The rooms are impeccably cleaned daily and each room has all the amenities you would need. From the website, the room was EXACTLY as described and also matched the photo from their site. The riad is very quiet (except from the guests themselves) and clean. It is very secure with cameras monitoring the front of the riad, the reception area and the public area, You are provided with a key to your room, but to enter the riad itself requires the front door being opened from riad staff. Since it is staffed 24/7 that is no problem. The A/C worked great but the TV service was wanting. But who cares about watching TV you have the Medina to watch! Each morning, a free breakfast is served on the roof top from 8-10. They have a variety of breads and rolls, a couple juices and milk, various jams, meats and condiments, fruit and cereal. In addition, they could eggs to your preference and provide warm pancakes and bread. I cannot thank the staff enough for my 10 day stay there. Ayaub and Lahgen went out of their way to ensure I had the best stay. From finding a place to buy bottled water at 2 AM to calling tour agencies to ensure my pick-up location, they were always happy to help and never asked to be compensated (but I did - numerous times). My next trip to Morocco, I will not hesitate to stay here again!

My friend and I spent 3 nights here at the end of April 2025. The Riad is in a fantastic location- 5 minutes walk from the taxi rank and five minutes walk into the Square. There are a couple of great restaurants and bars on the same road. Riad is small but very clean. Our room was located on the Terrace which we loved. There is also a roof terrace with two sun lounges where we spent a chilled hour or two every day. All the staff were lovely very helpful and couldn’t do enough for you. A special mention to the two ladies who worked in the kitchen and cleaned the rooms. And an extra special thank you to the two men - Auoub and Lahcen who worked on reception. They answered all our questions, of which we had many! They were very welcoming and Lahcen even walked us down to their sister hotel Riad Africa so that we did not get lost. They were brilliant.

Traditional Riad hall looks good.

Very small. Not as shown in the picture. No window in my room, very tiny shower room for a quart-room. Loft space is very low ceiling, so low that an adult could not sit up without touching the ceiling. No hairdryer. Dark and dusty.

Likes - Staff were friendly, very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was good albeit simple and repetitive mainly pancakes, vegetable tagine and eggs of choice. The Riad has a refurbished interior and the design and tiling is very impressive and gives an insight into what a traditional Moroccan house looks like. The decorative plunge pool and lounge area is pretty but you won't be rushing to get your swimwear. Bedroom , one of the larger ones available was small but functional. Good location for Medina Square, Souks and central area of old town. Dislikes - Very uncomfortable bed. Extra hard. The android TV doesn't work unless you have a Netflix or YouTube account. Hotel WiFi was inconsistent in the top floor room. Lots of Noise ! Stayed for 7 nights and we both had terrible sleep throughout. The Riad uses a crazy front door bell system. Every time a guest returns regardless of time of night everyone hears the very loud bell being activated. A main door key being given to all guests would negate this issue and help the onsite member of staff who has to hurry repeatedly downstairs to open the door. Breakfast is served on the roof terrace area which is nice. However guest's rooms are located right beside this area and as soon as breakfast starts 8 am you will hear guests talking and moving metal chairs and tables on concrete and tiles. Their tables may as well be in your room. The small kitchen where staff prepare food was also directly nextdoor. Staff start around 7 am. Add to the mix dogs barking late into the night, the morning call to prayer at sunrise and major building work at the building behind the Riad then sleeping is difficult. On arrival finding the Riad is not straightforward. You will be dropped off with an approx 10 mins walk away. This was expected however there is no street signage anywhere near the Riad to help you find it. The Riad which is up a small side alleyway has no sign outside either. I no doubt appear extremely negative.

It was clean, very friendly staff! But the location it was perfect, it was 5min walks from hotel to Jemaa El Fna square.

The staff in the Riad were so friendly and lovely, they were happy to answer any questions and made us all feel really welcome. They provided an amazing surprise birthday cake for one of our teenage sons 16th birthday which was on the day that we arrived! Breakfast was great - lots of home made breads and yummy Moroccan eggs - and the famous Moroccan tea that we all looked forward to every morning! The location of the Riad could not have been better - right off one of the main streets and less than 10 minutes from the main square. It was so beautiful and quiet inside the Riad compared to the hustle and bustle outside - like a secret retreat, tastefully decorated in traditional Moroccan style. The shopkeepers in the surrounding area were also all so friendly, courteous and welcoming. We had an amazing time - thank you so much!! ❤️

The only thing that could have been improved was signage! There is no sign outside the Riad to show what it is called (you wouldn't even know that it was. Riad as there is just a number in the door!!!) and no signage or directions on the Main Street. So difficult to find initially - but easy once you know where it is!
