Loved this Riad hidden in the Medina. Staff was warm and welcoming, the best of Berber and Arabic hospitality. One of the best experiences I’ve had at a Ryokan or Riad. And the food was good too!

"Lovely staff (especially Dress), noisy room, good breakfast served with a smile, and in a good place if you don’t mind d"

7.0

Opulent and comfortable on the whole. Nice roof terrace with shade and sun and comfortable chairs. However the best thing about the property was one of the staff called Dress who couldn’t have done more.

My room had a wooden door with 3-4 centimetres gaps at most edges. When people came into the Riad, it was as if they were in my room. It wasn’t so bad for me as I was on my own but, if you are looking for privacy, this is not the room for you! (My son had another room with a properly closing door.) I found the location of the property quite scary. It is down a series of dark, quite smelly, narrow passages in the medina area. I kept telling my son, ‘It can’t be down here’ but it was!

"Okay, but probably wouldn't book again."

5.0

The location of the riad is great. Delicious food - if you order a meal in the riad, it will be very, very tasty. The young man working reception/guardien is very kind & helpful.

The design of the riad isn't very exciting. We privatized this riad for our entire group and they were disappointed that it didn't look more "authentic" with Moroccan rugs, pompom blankets, lanters, etc. There is so much opportunity with such a great location. The house itself is very nice but the decor could be better, as this is what foreigners want to see when visiting a riad in the medina. Also, there was a staff member smoking all day/night inside the house which kept most of our guests up coughing all through the night. On the last night, the owner of the riad presented one of our clients with a bill for all the food consumed by the guest (which is always paid by the organizer, not the clients) and it worried them. Overall, I just don't feel like I can recommend the place and definitely would not book it again.

"Really smart Riad in the heart of Marrakech"

10.0

Lovely Riad really close to the Souks, the best restaurants, and all the incredible things Marrakech has to offer. Malika and her team Idris and Aisha were warm and friendly - nothing was too much trouble, and it really felt like they welcomed us into their home. The Riad has a wonderful roof terrace and we were treated to home cooked tagine one evening (when it was still warm enough to eat outside in December!) We were also treated to traditional singing and dancing on New Year's Eve. Such a great stay! Room was lovely, clean, great shower room and really comfy bed. Breakfast really set us up for the day... The team are only too happy to set up airport transfers, and Idris keeps fit by insisting on carrying all the bags to and from the car! If you have a little French language that would be helpful but all the effort was made by the hosts. Thank you all! We would highly recommend this Riad to spend a few nights or more if you're visiting Marrakech.

"Hidden Jewel of Marrakech "

10.0

This is a gem of a place to stay if you want the full experience of the Medina in Marrakech. You will need good directions or simply pay a few coins to get help from those looking to lead tourists to their Riad. Once there, you will discover it is right in the heart of the Medina, with everything that this means, available within easy walking distance. La Bigarade has just undergone a complete but sympathetic refurbishment. You get the full mix of what a Riad should offer; cool central courtyard, Arabic features and a roof facility where a full, delicious Moroccan breakfast is served, which should get you through most of the day. The bedrooms are also fully refurbished with modern 'wet-room' facilities. Add to this the most pleasant staff who simply cannot do enough to make you feel like honoured guests. Overall, it is probably as close to a five-star experience as you are likely to get anywhere within the Medina. Don't pass this gem by - I'm so glad I didn't.
