Casa Marinari

This is one of the loveliest and most charming places I have ever stayed (and I've traveled a lot both in Italy and around the world). This place was like a dream. First of all, it's 5 walking minutes from the beach (maybe not even). I went swimming and the water was so beautiful, so transparent. The owner, Michele (pronounced Me-KEL-ay), was extremely kind and helpful. He is the source behind the renovation of this entire place (masterpiece). It's been 3 years and he continues to make big changes (i.e. currently adding more rooms and apartments). The house is beautiful. It has a balcony upstairs that is beyond charming and has a breathtaking view. The house is full of modern amenities (the bathroom and shower were state of the art), yet it preserves the old. It is so well-designed and tastefully decorated. It's full of class. Frankly, I think it's a masterpiece. If you are looking for a huge city, Scalea is probably not the place to come (except in the summer), but if you prefer beautiful, moderate-sized authentic villages where the pace of life is slower and people in the streets know and talk to one another, this may be your place.

There was nothing I didn't like about this place. There's no food currently available here, but Michele is working on that, as he's hired people to build a bar and cafeteria-like place downstairs. Moreover, he gave me several excellent suggestions of places to eat in Scalea (and on the internet and just walking around, I found my own). There was nothing Michele didn't think of. I was so impressed. Then again, he's built this place up from the start. Even though he doesn't live there, it's not just a job for him (no way!); this is his home and he makes sure it is in top shape! I met some British friends in town. When I told them about the place, they wanted to see it (I think because they didn't believe me when I was raving about it so much). When they came to see it, they were absolutely blown away by the perfection of the place. And they also loved the balcony!

We loved how clean the room was, the nice fit and finish, the excellent location right by the narrow streets of the old town. The local restaurant we visited called 'La Rondinella Osteria Pop' was exceptional. Communication was good with the host and they were helpful. Very comfortable bed.

The bathroom still needed to be finished, missing it's towel radiator and a few other things. Light bulbs in the bedroom should be swapped out for the warm white type as the current ones are dim, cold and uninviting - just a small issue easily solved.

Loved the location and the view. Absolutely stunning! The breakfast was sweet and yummy in the morning. We were able to go for a morning swim straight after breakfast. It's basically on the water. The water is super clean and clear.

It was not really a problem but there was only one key total for the room. The ladies in the morning serving breakfast didn't know any English but we made it work. It was actually sweet. Practiced my basic Italian skills

The location was great in the city centre. Very close to a wonderful restaurant. It was very clean and comfortable.
