Breakfast was excellent. By the time I came to breakfast supplies had dwindled as some people had probably taken more than their fair share!

The bathroom suite was tiny, and had no outside window, so, despite an efficient extractor would have got mouldy easily. There was paint peeling off the ceiling too.

Amazing location. Well worth the visit to this beautiful area. I loved the old part of the hotel and the ability to sit around the fire in the evening. The dinner was excellent.

We arrived before 3pm and nothing was open, not even able to get a coffee at lunctime. We ended up going into Naesby and coming back after the 3pm opening time.

This is New Zealand’s best kept secret. This is an exceptional place - a real gem, where traditional meets comfortable with exquisite style and flair. The staff are wonderful and the evening meal was proper fine dining kept earthy, hearty and delicious. My highlight was roasting marshmallows by the fire.

In a perfect world, they’d be open for lunch too midweek during the high season.
