Eko Hotel Signature

Everything was fine. They met my expectations.

Having to arrive and wait for an hour to be checked into the room of my choice.

The Eko Signature Hotel was impressive. It offers a safe, quiet location right in the heart of VI. The staff was amazing, friendly and excellent service and honestly far superior to anything we have experienced in hotels in the US or other countries we have visited. (Moses, the bar mar, Dennis at the conceirge, Mary at the Bar. The restaurants were wonderful and we enjoyed every aspect of our stay. Dimitri, one of the managers was attentive and welcoming. Thank you to everyone there!

The majority of the staff were polite and diligent. The bar staff, bell boys, house-keeping and restaurant staff at both Signature and main building. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. We were there on both leisure and business and had requested a quiet room on one of the top floors and we were giving just that. WiFi was critical and it worked perfectly. I've known this hotel since I was a child, good to see the grounds, main hotel poolside, lobby etc etc were kept in a good condition. Pool looked great, and poolside dj and entertainment were lovely if you didn't want to go outside of the premises for an evening out. Location is best for getting anywhere in VI, Ikoyi, and Lekki. Even the mainland due to straightforward access to Eko Bridge linking the Island with the mainland.

A couple of the staff could have been more courteous. One thing we really didn't like was the surprise 24k Naira charge at checkout that we hadn't incurred. The man at checkout tried to explain their rates changed while we had already checked in and paid fully on our first day. I asked for the manager as I thought this was an odd practice. Eventually, the checkout guy dropped the charge. This stands out as the most disappointing experience. Apart from that, the hotel can do something about the flies while trying to dine by the pool during the day. Yes it is Africa, but a hotel of that calibre needs to invest in the available modern tech for such situations, fly catchers are a thing. The breakfast at Signature wasn't great. One look and we went across to the main building. I stuck to local dishes (yam, boiled plantain and a divine palm oil sauce! Which I had everyday for breakfast). The guy on the egg stand was lovely and really courteous. So was the lady at the buffet reception. OK selection of tropical fruit, given this is the tropics, though, pineapple and watermelon as the only choices are not good enough. There seemed to be far too many unhealthy things in comparison to fruit and fresh foods. As I said our room was comfortable and clean, though signs of wear and tear were visible, a crooked tissue dispenser here, a loose towel rack there, and rust around the bath and shower tub. Plus hot water was abit tempremental. If the wear and tear at the more recent Signature are anything to go by, we'll definitely give the main hotel a miss. Would we stay again? probably, because of majority of the staff, main hotel poolside, room size and for us, there was a home away from home feel. But can we get newer, better in VI for the money we paid, absolutely.
