Great staff. Maggie's restaurant is on the 3rd floor, very accessible, just make sure to get a reservation. The pool had a slight chill, but hot tub did the trick for the cooler morning. Bathtub on our deck was aqesome! Heated floors in bathroom. Very roomy for two people. Very clean. 5 minute walk to beach or to shops or restaurants. We'll be back!

"We enjoyed celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary but just felt the bed needs an upgraded mattress"

6.0

I loved the modern elements of the decor. I loved checking in through the app. I loved the fire elements and the soaking tub on the patio. I loved a functional kitchen and a lovely bathroom. Liked the decks. I also loved that there was a little electric car garage. Our car was too big, but that is a nice touch.

I was disapointed with the bed's mattress. Very uncomfortable. It was not typical of a luxious hotel. A comfy hotel bed is a key element in the overall experience. Also, there was some soiled areas (rug in living room and swing chair pad on the deck.

"Desolation Hotel - they did it again!"

10.0

Desolation Hotel has done it again—they truly never miss. I’ve stayed here a few times now and every visit has been nothing short of amazing. This most recent trip was for my friend’s bachelorette party, and it was perfect from start to finish. There are so many things Desolation gets right, but here are just a few highlights: First, the staff was outstanding—especially housekeeping. It was such a treat to come back to a refreshed, tidy suite each day. The beds in the townhouses are incredibly comfortable—seriously, 10/10. One of our favorite features was the outdoor deck with a fireplace and table. Our group of girls made the most of it—we had morning coffee chats, breakfast dates, played games, and just soaked up the great weather and each other’s company. It’s such a cozy, inviting space. We also hit the on-site gym, which was a great perk! It’s well-equipped with dumbbells, yoga mats, a bench, jump ropes, two Pelotons, and a treadmill—everything we needed to get in a quick workout before enjoying Tahoe’s nightlife. One of the best parts about Desolation is the location. It’s just a 5-minute walk to the strip, making it super convenient. But if you don’t feel like going out, you’re in luck—Desolation has its own restaurant, Maggie’s. We had dinner there one night and were blown away. The food was top-notch, the cocktails were divine, and the service was phenomenal. Huge shoutout to our server, Shalieh—she was so friendly, knowledgeable, and even helped us take group photos. She made the evening feel extra special. The bride-to-be felt truly celebrated, and the mixologist added a sweet touch to her whiskey sour with a custom foam design (photo below!). We loved it so much that we came back for breakfast—and I highly recommend doing the same at least once during your stay. We also had a relaxed pool day and couldn’t have asked for more. We had the pool to ourselves, and it was such a peaceful, luxurious experience. The loungers are super comfy, and there’s even a hot tub—perfect for unwinding. I’ll definitely be back again. I’ve already recommended Desolation Hotel to friends and family, and they’ve all had amazing experiences too. If you’re looking for a place that nails it on all fronts—comfort, service, location, and amenities—this is it. You won’t regret booking here.

"10/10!!"

10.0

This past weekend was my second time staying at Desolation and can confirm it still sets the bar SO high! Each time I visit I’m more and more impressed. Cannot recommend it enough! So comfy, cozy, and dog friendly! Great for couples, families, or friend groups! The short 7 min walk to the casinos and heavenly is also a huge plus! Really enjoyed the pool this stay as well and the on-site restaurant, Maggie’s, never misses the mark! Always so delicious whether you’re dining for dinner or brunch!

"Favorite hotel"

10.0

I’ve stayed at Desolation Hotel twice now - once in winter and once in the summer. It’s one of my favorite hotels! The rooms are well equipped with so many thoughtful touches including a kitchenette. There’s so many great amenities including pool, hot tub, gym, and sauna. They also have a restaurant called Maggie’s which has excellent food and drinks. The location is hard to beat! So conveniently close to shops and restaurants but without the noise of being on the Main Street. Can’t wait until next time!

"Home away from home!"

Cozy location close to lots of things to do

If you come when there is a big event, expect higher prices (same for all of South Lake Tahoe)

"Great decor"

8.0

This is probably one of the most expensive places we have stayed. We opted for the town house which come complete with garage. We chose this for the decor and now my partner wants our home to reflect this exactly! We was on a road trip so the washing machine and dryer plus the large fridge and all useful kitchen utensils. The only thing it lacked was actual clothes / suitcase storage. The pool was lovely but there was never anyone manning the bar. The beach is about 10-15 minute walk as is heavenly village and a few hikes. There was no lid on the kitchen bin so this smelt, the reception said they don’t come with lids?! For the price we paid I felt more attention could have been given to the upkeep - walls were marked so clearly hadn’t seen a cloth in months, missing grout, chipped wooden stairs, bird poo and areas which clearly hadn’t been cleaned.
