Sanderling Resort Residences

Check-in was average. Easy parking. Room had about 30 mosquitoes in it. Not ideal. Nighttime brought more. The lower lobby of our building literally had 2 swarms of mosquitoes on the walls. We’re talking apocalyptic number of bugs. Easy to fumigate, I’d presume. Not relaxing. Not worthy of another stay.

I was skeptical when I read the Sanderling was ditching the coast guard orange umbrellas and cushions that were symbolic of the resort; however, I was pleasantly surprised how easy on the eyes the new colors are. It was a good decision. The new carpets, paint, color coordinations, they are all home runs. The Sanderling is the crown jewel of the Outerbanks. I have just one minor suggestion: Get rid of the two stroke engine powered blowers used to push sand back onto paths. Electric blowers are powerful enough these days and far less jarring.

The room was a nice size and clean. Had to ask for thongs that should have been restocked at cleanings. Will no stay there again.

Check-in experience was okay. Just handed a resort map and information sheet. Told that it had "all info" we needed. Found later that they should have been directing "traffic" to there new restaurant Theodosia. They made zero attempt to do so!!! It is not cheap to stay here. Really expected to be welcomed much, much better.

Staff

We have stayed at the Sanderling before and enjoyed our stay. Our complaint on this visit was the outdoor dining and lobby bar were not open. There seems to be a hard rule that everything isn't open until Memorial weekend. If you wanted something to drink you had to walk over to the restaurant which was not a quick walk. My husband also thought the landscaping looked terrible. Also a lot of the wood handrailing should be replace as the wood is splintering and is a hazard.

It was nice, room had been recently updated. It was missing a bath mat so stepping out of the shower was very slippery. Also they were short on staff so checking in and out was a very long wait. I’m sure things will improve

Great place!

Newly renovated room and bathroom was beautiful. Just wish chairs on balcony were taller so we could sit on balcony and see over the rail. Other than that it was perfect!
