Shankara Munduk Bali

As a solo female traveller, I was initially nervous about staying here because there seemed to be no other guests. But the hotel staff were very friendly and attentive, they helped me feel comfortable and make the most of my stay. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, and while the pool was cold (understandable because it was low season), I still enjoyed my swim. I had trouble accessing the Shankara website and I also was unable to call them, so let me help you plan your trip: - Don't book any activities ahead of your arrival, the staff will help you plan your excursions with a local guide/driver, and these services will be much more affordable than the ones you book ahead online (those ones are expensive because they cover transfers to and from the south/centre of the island) - Bring cash!!! Shankara only do transactions in cash - that means you pay your local, your driver (if you're going out to dinner) and any entry fees to waterfalls all in cash. It's very expensive to get cash out at the ATMs in Munduk (and hard to find functioning ATMs), so be prepared. In low season, it's about 30,000IDR to get a driver to take you to one of the local restaurants and back (not very affordable for solo travellers), approx 500,000IDR for activities with local guide (not including food/entry fees), and approx 650,000IDR for return transfer out of Munduk with a local guide you may spend 100,000-200,000IDR per person per meal within the hotel - Grab/Gojek are not available in Munduk

The view and the room are nice. Good food

The staff too much noisy looks like you are in a school when they are all in the kitchen area.. Asked the front desk by phone 1 morning if the staff could buy me cigarettes, she replied they were all busy, but when I want to my bike they were all smoking cigarettes at the parking. The 2 girls at the front desk were professionals. All the building around and behind are just disgusting,don't expect to be in the middle of the nature. Sauna definitely not hot enough..the door not enough isolated.. The "rooftop " with disgusting fake plastic grass and plastic chairs is ridiculous...and a mess. All around the swimming same fake disgusting grass. And the part without this grass very slippery..please take off this grass and use a pressure water to clean the floor.. This place needs a manager..

I haven’t have a chance to like anything, because we’ve left in 5 min after arrival, there were no way we’d stay there!

I payed for two days in advance, when me and my partner arrived, we note we’ve shocked by the loud construction noice, we didn’t even unpack, I let the stuff of hotel to know that we immediately want to leave the property, because all we were looking for is a quiet place. When I’ve asked for some sort of refund (at least 50%) hotel denied this option, which was so unfair and we felt tricked! I’ll never be back to this place!

The surroundings and the view from the window, the spacious bathroom—or rather, the bathing room. I had the impression that it wasn’t very clean. A deposit was taken from me, though I’m not sure why, as the fridge was empty.

Room was very spacious, and the bathroom as well. Staff was very nice and available for any request and the breakfast was simple but good. Didn’t use pool and sauna but they were nice to have. Bath was also nice to have. I appreciated the welcome drink. We had dinner there and the food was good.

Shower could be better cleaned (edges were black and yellow) and the floor of the shower didn’t allow all the water to drain so there was always some water leftover which didn’t seem very hygienic.

The villa is nice. Have a nice view from the balcony.
