The Oddfellows Arms

Oddfellows lives up to its name 100% Exteriorly the building scares you; peeling paintwork, broken wooden fences, dropping facias, even a broken half hanging To Let sign as cherry on top! But once you meet the proprietor, and gets inside, I was enlightened! In brief, I can say many hotels, even 6 * hotels in South East Asia, I've stayed in, I've sworn under my breath that the rooms were designed more for aesthetics then for living in; one pet hate of mine especially Travelodge is NO power socket plugs by bedside; how to chat on phone whilst in bed? They expect you to get out of bed, trot over to other side of room to plug your phone in, get back into bed, then Tttrrriiinng, a new message notification comes in! It's annoying! But in Oddfellows, the room is obviously less luxurious as it's a hostel BUT it's damn practical, there's a barrel of power sockets beneath the bedside cabinet, a practical bedside lamp that has a simple switch, a nice size wardrobe with LOTs of hangers not FIVE like most boutique hotels, a tiny cute fridge, a quick dispenser kettle not typical hotel kettles with cords that's always not long enough to reach the limited power plugs and a washbasin with soap dispenser and towels, great bed with clean sheets etc Out my room, round the corner, 5 metres walk is the absolutely clean large shower and toilet you can swing several cats around, no probs. Breakfast is unique too, you cook it! Overall; thumbs up 👍 have booked another stay for later this month

Reasonable stay for a quick overnight work stopover, the bed was quite low compared with what I'm used to but wasn’t uncomfortable... En-suite is a hand basin only main bathroom's and toilets at each end of accommodation block. Owner (Peter) is attentive and welcoming. Coded doors give a reassuring secure area for when you're out of the room.

Great host and rooms perfect for qhat you need good size tv and comfy bed

Fantastic weekend, couldn’t have asked for more. Staff were fantastic and the owner/landlord Peter was so welcoming, friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. One the best weekends we have had away this year. Would definitely go again.

Peter was a wondeful host, even getting me a fresh towel late at night when I was coming home late from a festival. The room was a shared dormitory with bedding done daily and the toilet facilities were kept clean. The rooms are above a small pub which gets a little lively on the weekend but you get a 10% discount on the already cheap drinks. Would stay again happily.

This is a great place to stay. We used this hotel as our base as we backpacked across Europe. My wife especially enjoyed making our own breakfast in the fully stocked kitchen. Peter was a great host with lots of tips that made our travels even more enjoyable. The Swinton Train Station is a short walk from the hotel. Everything was great!

Peter was an amazing host, even upgraded my room because I missed the first night and had vacancies in a room with a double bed. Amazing breakfast too! Had a lovely convo with Peter as well. Thank you!

Very plesent 2days at the oddfellows warm welcome on arrival Peter the hoist was very welcoming could not do enough room very cleen with lots of wardrobe space bed very comfortable sraff very helpful and polite. 10/10 I will return definitely

You have to share the bathroom with other guest and also the showers are small. The bed was old and my body was sleeping in a hole made by clients over the years. the kindness and hospitality of Peter knows absolutely no bounds. he makes you feel immediately at home and at ease. the property is well taken care of, the beds are comfortable and despite being located above a pub, i still had a great sleep. clean bathrooms, one of the nicest showers known to man and absolutely mind blowing breakfast spread. price/quality ratio doesn’t even compare, it’s simply too good to be true. thank you, peter, for everything you do! i can’t wait to come back again.
