Cap Karoso Sumba - a member of Design Hotels

Celebrated a wonderful family Christmas at Cap Karoso. Location and facilities perfect. Particularly loved the spa. Great for just relaxing, but plenty of activity available.We had arranged a local driver so enjoyed exploring other parts of Sumba. Only suggestion is that some of the local dishes on the menu could have been spicier

Contracted food poisoning from the restaurant the first night I arrived (avoid the pulled pork!) - spent three days very ill, unable to eat or drink, stuck in the hotel. That can happen, even in a good hotel, what was more upsetting was the response from staff. I was there alone, very sick, and not a single staff member checked in even once to see how I was recovering. They knew how bad my condition was as I had needed to call a doctor for rehydration and medicine - but even still there was not a single member of staff that checked or even expressed sympathy. I felt very alone. I was relieved when I was well enough to leave.

Thanks for the warm welcome and pleasant stay. We loved the hotel! We particularly enjoyed the food and cocktails at the restaurant and also our yoga class and spa area. Also, we’d like to highlight how beautiful cap karoso is, we’ve felt very relaxed. It was a truly nice stay and we wish we had a couple more days to spend at cap karoso.

The property is incredible beautiful I believe needs a better maintenance.

Beautifully designed hotel at a great location with good amenities. The staff members were very attentive and provided great services. Our room has a view of the ocean and the garden. The food at the Beach Club was great. We very much enjoyed our stay at the hotel by the beach. I would highly recommend it to friends.

The tours provided were not of the best value. Some of the tours were quite expensive even though the destinations were less than 20 or 30 minutes from the hotel. There is room for improvement in terms of English fluency and the tour guides' and speaker's knowledge of the history and traditions. Their guides are local and speaking from their life experience without real training in or understanding of their own culture and traditions. They had a hard time answering questions about their religious beliefs, traditions and techniques. They need to be professionally trained. The ceremony they promised was lackluster lasting just a few minutes. It was not taken seriously. We were not impressed by the fine dining experience at Julang but I understand the restaurant has rotating chefs and it could be very different with a new chef next month
