Dornoch Station

Beautiful hotel in a superb location. Lovely, comfortable rooms. Very good for visitors with dogs.

Incredible experience at Dornoch Station. The facility, room and restaurant are impeccable.

Dornoch Station is a beautiful hotel built in 1904 and full of comfy sofas, open fires, luscious wood panelling and all the comforts imaginable. The staff were helpful and friendly. We loved the location overlooking the Dornoch Firth and went walking on the beach (carefully skirting the golfers!) We ate in the restaurant every night of our stay, as well as breakfast and had one excellent meal after the next. Our rooms were lavishly decorated and comfortable. We both slept well and thought the mattresses were excellent. The rooms had a Nespresso coffee machine and a variety of capsules. There were herbal teas as well as traditional teas, and instant coffee as well. They also provided caramel wafers! My room, which was somewhat larger, had a comfortable armchair and reading light. We were out and about all day exploring the beaches, woodlands, rivers, castles and gardens in the area, and came back every night foot-sore, happy and tired to a delicious dinner and quiet evening with our books. My friend and I enjoyed our stay immensely and we hope one day to return.

Okay, if I have to quibble, there was no wall socket to plug in the hair dryer anywhere near a mirror! But that is it.

The staff were pleasant and the hotel was nice although old fashioned but we like that. It was in an excellent location 10min walk to the town and to the beach. Dornoch is a very idyllic town.

Breakfast was basic. Bar was very poorly stocked. Some staff were unsure of their role. Certainly not 5 star accommodation more like 3.5.

We had a short break here. The location is suberb with wonderful views. The room was very well appointed and immaculately clean. The food in the restaurant and the bar were very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we had a fire alarm during the night, but the spoken commentary given by the alarm made all aware of exactly what was going on which was very useful.
