Calma Cafe - Surf, Stay and Yoga

Very big and modern room, great shower and also very nice bath gel, shampoo and conditioner. We got some free drinks in the fridge which we appreciated a lot. Almost no people on the beach, so really great place to chill and enjoy. There are quite high waves so it is a great place to Surf, we do not surf but went to swim in the water before the high waves and enjoyed the beach a lot - water quality great and all the beach very clean.

It does it’s name justice. Calmest spot in between Tangalle en Dickwella for sure!! The rooms are insanely big and beautiful and brand new and clean.

Very welcoming. Room was clean, food good, great surfing lessons. Owner and staff were always there to provide personal attention and make you feel comfortable. Great place for a relaxing stay in the south.

The rooms are super new and modern styled and clean. Breakfast was really good! The simplier one included and also the one from their brunch menu! Such a nice garden to chill and watch the ocean. Staff super friendly and specially the owner would be always there to help out or answer questions or just chat.

The shower water pressure was quite weak, and the sink drained slowly. We also noticed some ants in the room. As already mentioned the staff was friendly and attentive, though at times a bit too eager to clear the table. ;)

Great location with direct access to the beach but with a lovely partly shaded grassy area. This area had bean bags and umbrellas for your use. These were also for use by anyone dropping in during the day. We had no issue getting a spot to sit but the afternoon got busy so could be a problem. Breakfast was excellent. Good choices although we had a Sri Lankan breakfast which was lovely.

Room was a bit tired. Bathroom is ‘in’ the room. Only a low dividing wall separates it from the bedroom! Slightly out on its own which meant that you had to get a tuk tuk for a night out. Not far so less than 1000 rupees. However, this meant it was quiet. The beach was empty!!

Beautifully renovated rooms, right on a gorgeous beach perfect for beginner surfers or those who can want to really relax and swim in calmer waters. The front garden with all the rugs beanbags was such a great spot to hang out , read and do very little. Tharu was the perfect host - super friendly, super chilled and super helpful. Breakfast and their coffee was 10/10. This is the most relaxed we felt during our trip to Sri Lanka and we would 1000% come back. Thank you Calma! 🧘‍♀️

We stayed 6 days in Calma and we made the right choice to end our trip: Calma wears well its name as you will experience a very peaceful stay, with sunset/sunrise views from your room by the beach; breakfasts are very nice and diverse, you can have it everywhere in the garden, just enjoying the sound of the waves. Special thank you to all the kind staff, and special hands up to Tharuk and his sister who took care of us with always a authentic smile during our stay 🫶 Also Leni is an amazing surf teacher, best one in town! With always a piece of advice when seeing us surfing everyday after our class 🤙🏼 10min by scooter (rented at Calma) or tuk-tuk it is very easy to reach all attractions around! We were happy to stay away from the crowded Hiriketiya and enjoy also the waves for ourselves 👌🏼 The room was well equipped and very pleasant to stay with the small terrace at the front! Thank you so so much for everything 👌🏼

Access to private beach and breakfast was good.

Beachfront room was really damp, the bed uncomfortable and toilet in need of bleaching. Bathroom is not in separate room, which was not detailed in the room options.

We were welcomed by the team and shown straight to our room which was appreciated after the long journey. The room was smaller than expected but lovely all the same. The food was incredible - every meal was so good.

The location is set back from the main part of Hiriketiya and so a Tuk Tuk was required to get to the town for dinner. A member of staff took us down and offered to pick us up when we were ready to come back that same evening. But he didn’t leave. He became possessive, inappropriate and wouldn’t leave us alone. We felt uncomfortable the next day at the accommodation as he was staring. Over the next day and night that we stayed, he would turn up to every location and take pictures making us (two girls travelling together) very uncomfortable. We didn’t tell him where we were going so I guess he was following us. It’s a small town but not that small! It made us upset and it was not a good start to our trip. There was one more incident but I don’t feel comfortable writing it on here. I would therefore not recommend to stay.
