Calma Cafe - Surf, Stay and Yoga

The room was very clean, big and stylish. The staff was nice and the food was good (breakfast and brunch, even though half of the brunch menu was not available for 5 days) The common area, beach and garden are very nice (but there are a lot if flies which is kinda annoying) Yoga class was very nice and you can book surfing classes spontanously

We had no warm water in our room due to some issues with the water system, they knew before and did not tell us - the overall communication about this was not good, however they apologized and gave us a discount on the rate The room was is in a new building, which is more or less a construction site, it was kinda loud in the mornings due to drilling and hammering The staff could not speak proper english, so whenever we asked for something extra e.g for breakfast it was not possible to add or exchange something. Also half of the brunch menu was not available (all 5 days) Also the fish dishes did not taste good In the common area were a lot of flies which made it kinda hard to chill, eat or relax. They also made Yoga tricky - it's a pitty because the place would be really nice. The surf classes seemed a bit random, no theory, they rushed us to get on the board and it felt a little bit unprofessional. We think it is very expensive for Sri Lanka, especially for what it is. Overall the price-quality ration is not good. I guess with some improvements this place acutually can be really nice.

Beautiful beach not only to surf but also to chill. Amazing food. Prepared with love and fresh ingredients. Room super cute , view on the ocean and eye on details. They try to be sustainable and not using things you through away afterwards (water bottles, napkin, straws etc.) The staff is amazing, they are friendly and you can see how much love there is in this project. Great instructors for surfing !!!

Nothing!!! Everything was absolutely perfect, just one suggestion, putting some mosquitoes nets.

It is remote and away from the huzz and buzz. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the food an adventure. If you want peace, this is the place to go. The beach is on your doorstep and an excellent venue to start your surfing career. Because of the long beach, there is enough space for all the surfers and to take a nice stroll.

We didn't realise how humid it could be, and it would have helped a lot if there was an aircon in the room. There are 2 rooms which accommodate 2 people. For a big family or with small children, this may be a problem.

The property was beautiful, the rooms very cozy, the beach is amazing and the dogs are very welcoming too. All the staff is very kind and always ready to help us with anything we would need. Had the chance to try a surf lesson with Tharu, which was a really nice experience as well. Got to use the shala with a beautiful view to the ocean as well, it was beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay and advice everyone to go too! Looking forward to go during high season!

The only thing we would point out is the difference between going in off season or high season. The coffee was opened, but not running at full speed, the beach was still a bit dirty, the place itself was just starting up, so the garden also didn’t look as nice as it probably does during high season. Of course that once there’s AC in the rooms it will make it perfect.

The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. The place is very beautiful and well maintained. The food is absolutely amazing. You are 50 meters from an incredible surf beach. We did yoga and took a surf lesson from them, both were fantastic. We stayed for 2 nights, I wish we stayed for longer!!!

Calma, true to its name, is incredibly calm and exactly what we were looking for during our stay. It's a small hotel with only two rooms and a very long beach practically exclusive to guests. The owner is lovely, and the staff promptly attended to any requests we had, especially regarding breakfast preferences. At night, the silence is enchanting. I highly recommend staying here for a few nights or simply visiting for beginner surfing.

This place is phenomenal! I want to gate keep this gem but I won't because they deserve your business! As soon as you pull up, you can see the ocean through their beautiful open air cafe. Calma is located on a quiet beach with just a few other small establishments (small restaurant / surf school / 1 other hotel). If you're looking for a peaceful stay away from the chaos (but still less than a 10 minute ride from Hiriketiya) this place is perfect. You'll wake up to a delicious fresh breakfast every morning with the option to take a surf or yoga class. The owners are incredible and have a beautiful story if you have the chance to chat with them. The staff are wonderful as well and truly make you feel like you're staying in someone's home. I almost moved back my flight to stay longer in this little slice of paradise but unfortunately tickets were too expensive. That being said, I'll definitely be coming back!!!!!!! My soul feels nourished after just two nights here.

One of the most welcoming places you can find. The food is absolutely delicious with excellent service, a true Sri Lankan gem. Lovely people - beautiful vibe!

This was the best place during our 2 weeks travel around Sri Lanka. The beach in front of the room is beautiful and not crowded. The staff and owners were amazing with us, very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious (both breakfast and evening meal). Calma really gave us that feeling of tranquility that we needed. The room decoration was beautiful and you even get the chance to spend some time with lovely dogs and puppies. We can only recommend you staying there, we were pleased and very happy with our choice.

Gutted we only spent 1 night, we'd be happy to spend few more nights there.
