We’ve been staying in several 4-star hotels during our travels around Japan but this was easily our favourite despite having a lower star rating. It offered something much more special, a truly authentic and traditional experience, which was exactly what we were hoping to find. While not every room had full private facilities, all rooms had their own toilets and the overall experience more than made up for it. It felt less like a hotel and more like a warm, welcoming homestay. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, always going out of their way to help. The meals were plentiful and delicious and one of the highlights was dining alongside other guests, families and couples alike which created a really lovely, communal atmosphere. Our kids were especially happy, with games and activities available that kept them entertained throughout our stay. The Japanese garden was absolutely stunning, particularly at night when the lighting brought out the most beautiful colours, it created such a peaceful and magical setting. The onsen was another standout feature, easily accommodating our whole family and honestly as good as, if not better than, other private onsens we experienced in Hakone. A particularly thoughtful touch was the shuttle service arranged by the owner each morning to Gora, which made getting around so much easier and really enhanced our daily plans. I genuinely can’t rate this place highly enough, it was a highlight of our trip and somewhere I’d recommend without hesitation.
