Bru Bar & Hostel

Excellent value for money, and a great location in Cork. I travelled with four friends, and the hostel were able to ensure we were in the same room, which was very much appreciated. The flexibility to cancel until very late on is a nice to have if plans change. The accommodation was comfortable with reasonable cleanliness. The kitchen was very large and well built out, with plenty of cupboard and fridge space when we travelled, which was quite a busy period. The dining area is pretty comfortable, and the included breakfast was great and provided plenty for the morning and especially for the price, was impressive. The bar was very nice, a little pricey, but very practical and relaxed to watch the football or catch up with friends in the evening. The staff were very friendly and helpful overall; there were some occasional issues with communication in English, but we managed to understand each other in the end. Overall, this accomodation was great for this trip with friends, and for the price, I am very happy and would return again without a doubt and recommend to others wanting to visit the lovely city of Cork.

The check-in procedure was a little complicated. The en-suite bathroom could do with an upgrade to be honest: the shower door was broken, which, paired with the push-to-use button, made it quite awkward to use the shower. There was also quite a bit of mould around the bathroom. The kitchen was however a bit lacking in equipment, especially cutlery. On one night, there were only two forks in the entire kitchen! The dining area did start to smell a bit weird when temperatures increased a bit, which made it not the most pleasant space to be in for longer periods, plus there was no air conditioning. There are definitely some areas for improvement.

Terrible beds - can feel every possible movement of the person below.. shower was really annoying because you had to keep pushing the button to use the water.. no lift so prepare yourself for many flights of stairs
