Room at the Back, 2 George Street

The room is very cozy and well equipped, there's everything you need.. Rachael is an awesome person and an even better host. I rarely met someone who was so open and friendly towards me and made me feel right at home. Avoch is an awesome place to stay when visiting the Highlands. I will definitely come back.

For a tiny place, it really does the job well. It's a shower room, bed and microwave, plates, cutlery and kitchen bar to sit on stools at (looking out on to the gorgeous characterful alleyway). So it's not large, but has everything that you really need. There's a gorgeous little yard with gorgeous plants and pots, and you are only 30 seconds walk from the sea. Owner lives in the house attached to it and is very welcoming and helpful. The village is quirky and characterful, and we can recommend the chippy.

I mean it is small, but you know that when you book it.

I had passed though Avoch (pronounced "Auch") a few times before, not realising what a hidden gem is it is. The property is literally a minute's walk from the shore, and 4 minute's walk from the harbour. Packed with quaint tiny fishermens' cottages in narrow streets, but amenities all nearby. Nobody walks by with saying hello! Everybody very friendly. Lots of places to visit nearby. I love Rosemarkie with its beautiful beach, shielded from the wind. Cromarty is well worth a visit, especially the museum. I even went in swimming a few minute's drive away, in Fortrose! (Yes, at the end of October - The Moray Firth has its owm micro-climate!)

Unfortunitely most of the touristy things, like the dolphin-watching tours, had closed down for the winter. You might prefer to go into Inverness, a few mkiles away

What a lovely quaint little “room at the back” everything we needed and more! Fantastic location, everything you needed was easily in walking distance. An absolutely beautiful location and Rachel was very welcoming and knowledgeable.

Absolutely nothing!

A gem of a room. Exceptionally well presented with lots of little touches….. small vase of flowers, a personalised welcome message. Felt you were being invited into someone’s home. The host was very friendly and welcoming and helpful. Would happily stay again…. Ideal location for visiting the coastal area ….. just a shame I missed the dophins.

For myself there was nothing I didn’t like.

It was a very well thought out use of space. Amazing attention to detail. Very comfortable and welcoming to us and our dog. Absolutely beautiful location and incredible value for money. Could not recommend it more highly.

Excellent cleaning of the room and bathroom. The host is amazing and always ready to help. Magic, peaceful and restful place, I'll certainly be back one day. The sea 🌊 is at just a few steps from the property. The location is good to visit the surrounding area, the dolphins 🐬 from Chanonry Point, the waterfalls Fairy Glen Falls, near Rosemarkie, Rosemarkie beach ⛱️, Cromarty, Inverness, Cairngorms mountains, Glenmore Forest Park, Lochness, and many more. You can stop to rest if you wish to go upper as we've been in Orkney Islands as well. You can drive or, as an alternative, you can manage the travel by bus from Avoch.

It would be much appreciated a very small fridge in the room, I've seen some who could fit inside the cupboard. Rachael, the host is working as well, and she would not be available to give you what you need from her fridge at any time. I didn't want to bother her to give and take food or drinks, as in the village are not too many choices of restaurants. There is a little caffè with Seaview in the village, beautiful, but unfortunately I've had an extremely bad experience there.
