Ein wirklich guter Ort um die Vulkane und die Stadt zu besuchen. Eric steht mit Rat und Tat zu Seite und hat mir die Besteigung des Itztaccihuatl ermöglicht.

"A great place to rest when visiting Amecameca for hikes in the area!"

9.0

The space was clean and spacious and had beautiful views from the terrace of the surrounding volcanoes! The host Erik is also a hiking guide for those who want to hike in Iztaccíhuatl–Popocatépetl National Park. Erik is incredibly helpful with orienting folks to the area and describing the hiking trail options. Erik is often available to drive guests to and from the trailheads and offers a better rate than local taxis. To summit the volcanoes in the area it is recommended to have a guide with you and Erik can act as guide for some of the hikes, and if you want to do a hike that he doesn't lead, he will know who to connect you to! There are not tour companies based in Amecameca, so if you want to start your hike from here, doing it with Erik is best! We arrived to Amecameca by bus from CDMX (about 2 hours and about MEX$45) on a Sunday afternoon, went to the Sunday market and got dinner nearby, and Monday morning we left the hostel at 6:30am to hike. Note: the park facilities are closed on Mondays which means you don't need to pay an entrance fee. As long as you bring sufficient food and water, hiking is still possible when the park is closed! The trails are well-marked. There isn't cell service for most of the hike, but we were able to track our location via sattelite on Google Maps. Erik dropped us off at Paso de Cortez and we hiked to La Jolla (or La Jollita on the trail signs) which was about 6km each way. We then met Erik back at Paso de Cortez at 1:30 before the rain started. We would recommend getting an early start so you can enjoy the views before the clouds roll in!

We stayed in the upstairs suite that has a private kitchen and bathroom, and the music from the gym downstairs could be heard until 10:30 when the gym closed, but when we asked they were able to turn the music down.

El trato del personal definitivamente es lo mejor. Es atento, resuelve dudas, brinda sugerencias. Además las instalaciones del hostal son muy buenas, en buenas condiciones e higiene.

"Hiking the Paso de Cortes"

You have access to the gym, and the owner gives you any info you need about the near by hikes. He offers a paid service to transport you and pick you up from the near by volcanos as well

The hostel itself and the host, Eric, were wonderful. Eric has a large gym on the site that he told us we could use for free, and he let us do our laundry as well as use the kitchen for free. He gave us a lot of good beta on climbing Iztaccihuatl which was the primary reason for our stay in Amecameca, and his information was both accurate and very helpful. We should have asked him if we would be able to rent crampons from him when he told us they were recommended above 5000m because he was definitely right about that

The only negative here was that the hostel did not feel like it was in the nicest part of Amecameca. I’ve been told by multiple people since we stayed there that it is a really cute town with a bustling market in the center, but the area where the hostel in felt like it wasn’t super well lit and a little bit sketchier than where we stayed in Tepoztlan, Ciudad Serdan, and CDMX during our trip. That said, though, inside the hostel itself felt very safe - we just didn’t venture very far away from the hostel while we were in town.
