Ty Afon - River House

Firstly we appreciated the revised inclusion of full breakfasts in the room price, although we expected this to be standard with the "superb breakfast included" clause stated when selecting a booking on booking.com and considering the overall price. On arrival, indeed the hotel's situation within the village was very nice, with ample parking available to guests. The room itself was generally acceptable, carpeted, with comfortable beds, good bathroom, welcoming tea, coffee, biscuits etc. however there were a few flaws that needed to be brought to the attention of the duty manager George who came up to our room with a spare TV remote. There were a few stains on the carpet as well as upon the desk stool which we felt we should point out just in case we got blamed for this. The kettle was in an unacceptable state with a dark residue inside, none of which were rectified for the duration of our stay, where someone should have been straight on it to remedy. The towels are of good quality and changed every day whilst the room is "freshened up" and 4x classy 330ml glass bottles of spring water are supplied daily. Counteracted by the cheap mini milk cartons for your tea/coffee labelled "tastes like fresh milk" which to me is a clear indication it's not real milk at all. you could easily obtain "lakeland organic" milk sachets, if class is what you want to fully portray. The dining area is spacious, fresh & clean with dining tables set to a high standard paired with comfortable chairs and real linen table cloths & napkins. We stayed for dinner here on the 19th July 2025 and the food quality and presentation was truely impressive, where 2 menu selections were perfectly adequate for 4 people.

We were shown our room to accomodate 4 and immediately noticed quite a loud droning hum which turned out to be coming from the kitchen's extractor shaft attached to the outside of our room. We asked the receptionist if there were any other rooms available and there were not although we were assured that the humming stops around 9:30pm when the kitchen is closed. We had no real option but to accept this under duress rather than ruin our break. The honourable resolution for this disappointing matter of non-disclosure would be to honour our request of a 30% discount/refund on the overall room cost where we offered to donate 10% of the 30% to our local church, although no agreement from the hotel manager was forthcoming. Breakfast quality is around standard however this establishment failed my "extra mile test" where I ask for a simple non-standard "off the menu" request which was received with some perceived sarcasm and refusal.

Excellent location, fantastic food , excellent breakfast and dinner , wonderful hosts , very tastefully refurbished lobby and restaurant / bar areas that were also super clean .

Our room could do with a bit of refurb upgrade - I understand that some rooms have already been redesigned and more investment will go into the hotel . The beautiful lobby and restaurant downstairs have already been done .

The location is beautiful, the staff were excellent and the breakfast was to a high standard, over all I was very happy with my stay and will be visiting again soon.

Our only recommendation was that our bathroom would benefit from some updates, the door latch made it a challenge to open, window blind rust marked, shower temperature was inconsistent
