#4 The Quirky Quarters

As per name it's quirky, very clean and well placed.in Southsea

It was slightly light on kitchen equipment but apparently a set of sharp knives were missing and would be replaced. There was no lounge area so you had to watch TV in bed. Also TV reception wasn't great so we.watched a.Kindle

Perfect little apartment well equipped and beautifully decorated. Great communication from owner too

The entrance hall was a bit shabby and sweet outside noisy at night but that didn't bother us.

Spacious apartment, clean and well stocked kitchen with cooking equipment. The location was good. It was easy to find and get to.

The shower was either scalding hot or cold but once contacted the owner had the plumber arrive the next morning to repair.

The apartment was clean, quiet and I felt safe staying here as a female solo traveler. The location was great, just a short walk to the seafront and gunwharf quays. There were also many restaurants and grocery stores nearby.

There was a fire alarm that kept beeping due to low battery, however upon notifying the host they fixed it the same day!

Very cosy little home from home. Comfortable and well equipped - we found everything we needed for the weekend, including toaster, hob, oven etc. Owners/accommodation management were very helpful and communicative.

Shower was a little temperamental in terms of hot and cold and not very powerful…but did the job. The cost was pretty high for a property of this size however it was Victorious weekend and we know all accommodation gets pricey then.

The location was perfect for exploring Portsmouth. The instructions to get in were very clear and we could park nearby on the street for free. The apartment was comfortable with a small modern kitchen, bathroom and sitting area.

If you don't like stairs this is not the place for you unless you request the apartment on the bottom floor.

The location is very good for accessing the multitude of things to do in the local area, with lots of them being within easy strolling distance. The apartment itself was very clean and the hosts pleasant & efficient in communications. Early check-in so that I could drop off bag very much appreciated. Wifi decent speed & easy to connect to. Owners obviously making a really good effort, and "quirky" is something that I usually like, but it seems that my definition differs from the hosts'......

The hosts need to advise potential guests upfront about the steep narrow winding stairs. I am fairly fit but have some mobility issues - I live in a 3 storey town house so am familiar with stairs! I was glad I had a backpack rather than a suitcase, which I would have struggled to get up there. Had I known this I would not have booked #4 Quirky Quarters. On opening the front door to the communal area, one is faced with a narrow corridor & very tatty/dirty looking carpet, with this theme being carried on throughout the communal area. Handrail loose in places & did not fill me with confidence. I'll list the other observations & suggestions for improvement. They may not bother some, but as someone who travels extensively & uses apartments routinely rather than hotels, they were immediately apparent: -No fire extinguisher or fire blanket - no emergency instructions - given that this is a second floor flat with no alternative means of egress if there was a fire, I would hope for some sort of guidance. -No fan - given that the flat is next to main road it would be nice to be able to get some air moving without listening to the constant traffic noise. -Electric meter & cabling exposed. I'm positive that the bit of cardboard held on by 4 drawing pins isn't an approved method of covering terminals. This could be easily covered/ masked. -Fridge very nice, but having no ice compartment / freezer is a really poor omission. Extract fan at exactly right level for hitting head! -Shower cubicle very small: this is "quirky" as bathroom has plenty of space for a decent size unit. Shower temperature control potentially dangerous in my opinion: it went scaldingly hot on a number of occasions. Nowhere to put soap in shower. -Guests need to be informed of need to walk sideways through corridor between kitchen & bedroom. -Mattress needs to be fixed to stop it sliding on bed frame.
