Cold with boiler left off and took time to warm, there was a smell but put this down to the cold environment

Location is great and free parking right outside

We were coming to Scarborough for a special weekend and I asked to check in between 12pm and 1pm because we had activities booked. Even though I was told the cottage was empty the night before and I was willing to pay to gain early entry; I was told no it had to be 2 pm. The smell of chip fat also was strong in the cottage.

It felt like a proper home was very clean

Location was great in relation to meeting up with family We had a problem with the heating on Christmas day and they came and sorted it straight away

Unfortunately the downstairs had a very pungent smell, I believe it was stale urine, this really let the property down as I think this has been mentioned before and obviously it's not been sorted, really needs a good clean and furniture/carpets replaced Toilet door in main bathroom doesn't shut properly either

1 when we arrived no soap in the bathrooms or sink in the kitchen 2 water heater was turned off so no hot water to shower figured it out but should have been turned on 3 No top sheet on any bed very strange 4 Bath tub facia was loose hanging off Just small easy fixes to be taken note of and make it a better experience

Lovely cottage but needs some tlc. Has potential to be great. Well equipped. Spacious upstairs with an en suite and a family bathroom. Smart tv. Excellent Wi-Fi. Friendly owner who was contactable. But issue not resolved.

A serious issue was that the handles in the back bedroom wouldn’t close so the window could not be secured. The en suite window had had the handle totally removed and was wide open with no way of closing it for security or warmth. The owner was friendly and said he’d arranged a locksmith. We informed him that we’d left the key in the key box so they could enter the house while we were out to fix it, but they didn’t and heard nothing more. With young children we were very concerned about safety. The Property appeared clean at first sight, but there are issues that need addressing. For example, previous guests had left a chocolate wrapper behind the bedside drawers and a new clothes label in the wardrobe. Tea spills were left on wall and skirting boards were dirty. The front door was dirty with hardened, dried on bird dropping - not the best welcome. The inside of the oven needs a really good clean as does an ornamental teapot/cups which haven’t been cleaned in a very long time. I suggest you remove them if you don’t want to clean them. There are also some maintenance issues to address. Examples are: The toilet seat in the family bathroom needs fixing. Tiling near the microwave is coming away from the wall. The pipe below the kitchen sink (in cupboard) leaks. The ‘leather’ chair in the lounge has several splits /slashes in the leather. The mattress in the back bedroom is very uncomfortable and needs replacing. These things are easily rectifiable and it could be a super holiday let. In our opinion the booking.com grading is too high until issues are sorted.

Sadly the cottage was very dirty ,luckily I brought toilet cleaning wipes ,thick dust and cobwebs everywhere.
