The Tollcross Apartment - Modern & Bright 1BR

The apartment was in a very good location, near the old and the new town, very close to many interesting locations. Also is was right next to public transport and had many supermarkets around. It was very clean and had all the important facilities (fridge, washing machine, toaster, water boiler, hair dryier, iron and iron board etc) as well as soap, linen, shower gel, toilet paper and other cleaning products. It was a really bright and pleasant apartment. The owner was very helpful and discreet and answered quickly to our messages whenever we needed something. Key access was really easy. The bathroom has floor heating and was always warm. The view from the window was also pleasant.

Although the apartment itself seems new and is in very good condition, the inside of the building as well as the staircase is old, dirty and looks like it is abandoned. Also there atre a lot of stairs (the apartment is on the 3rd floor) and there is no elevator, so if anyone has difficulty in climbing stairs or has heavy baggage, should better avoid it. The bathroom is really small and narrow and the sink is so small that it is impossible to wash oneself without water falling on the floor. The mechanism of the shower is a bit tricky: you either can have hot water or good water pressure. When you increase the pressure of the water, it gets cold. If you want to get it warmer, you have to decrease the preasure, but not too much, otherwise it gets impossible to wash oneself. That was a bit annoying. Also, there were no towel hangers in the bathroom, neither shelves in the shower to keep your toiletries in (shampoo, soap, shower gel etc). These are easy to install, at least an over door hanger could be easily found and installed with no trouble and cost. The two small radiators are not enough to warm the apartment if it is a really cold day. The bigger one is OK for the bedroom, but none of the two is enough for the living room, so I think that the small one should be replaced with someone bigger. But the most important problem was the bed. Although it is a double bed, it is a bit narrow if you are not a tiny person. I mean, although my wife and I are not that big a people, we didn't have enouph space to turn without bamping on each other, and that kept us awaking often during the night. Unfortunately we didn't sleep well and that means that we felt tired all the time. Maybe it would be OK if it was only for a couple of days, but we stayed there 7 days and at the end we were exhausted.

Pros and cons! The location is superb, the small apartment looks cute and cozy, and its all looks superb, it would be an amazing flat for summer time :) Electric heaters were provided for the living room and bedroom which were good, but the bathroom has no heat. Kitchen is very useable with all things needed, we managed to do a simple Christmas dinner for two.

There is no central heating in the flat, that makes bathroom without heating at all, just bearable. The price was quite high for what you get althougth expected because of the christmas timing.

Was a little chilly after being out all day with no heating, but the heaters provided warmed it up!

The department was clean and comfortable.It was equipped with everything needed for a break away.

The outer staircase was quite run down and was in stark contrast to the bright and clean apartment.

Spotless super clean apartment in the city centre. Quiet. Fantastic host, replies quickly and very helpful. Comfy bed. Trees outside window so feels private. Lovely big fluffy towels.

Couldn't get induction hob to work. Bit chilly, there is under floor heating which is toasty in the bathroom but not really other areas. Heater is provided in the bedroom though. TV only works on iplayer but we managed to bounce Netflix from phone. Theres a coffee machine but no pods.

Freshly renovated apartment with all amenities and view over tree filled garden which was quiet despite the entrance being off the main road. The location was very convenient, just over 1km to the main St and Castle, but loads of bus transportation. There was WiFi, and smart TV. Kitchen had everything that I needed...bar fridge, Cooktop, oven, toaster/kettle, and all cooking/serving and eating utensils.it was great that the host provided good communication and instructions for retrieving the keys as there were several lock boxes on the door jamb.

It took me a little while to figure out how to use the main lights in the living room/bedroom (2 days)...it looked like a fan speed knob, but if you pressed it, the light came on!!! The common stairwell wasn't well lit between the second/first floor and I nearly fell missing the final step..whic would be disastrous because everything is concrete or rendered concrete. I didn't know where to take rubbish to dispose of...so had to leave at the end of my stay..which embarrassed me as a guest. I wanted to make sure the unit was reasonably clean and tidy when I left because it was clean and tidy when I arrived. Finally, I found the floor of the shower extremely slippery once it was wet. I have a slight mobility issue so this was a little precarious initially, and I had to make conscious movements and find stabilisation points, so that my feet didn't slip so far apart that I might lose my balance and fall! Also...I don't know if it is the age of the unit block, but drainage from the shower was very slow and several times, water breached the boundaries of the base and spilled onto the main bathroom floor. If there was a tip or trick to prevent this, it would be good to know as a visitor because it caused me stress because I didn't want any water to come close to the laminated flooring!!

The apartment was spotless, so cosy at night and lovely & bright during the day. Fully equipped in terms of if you wanted to stay in & cook a meal. Great location, 20 min walk from waverly station. David was a great & accommodating host.

Just keep in mind the apartment is on the third floor with no lift access for those who need some assistance but this did not affect us.
