The Tollcross Apartment - Modern & Bright 1BR

I really could not fault the owner of the apartment, everything was lovely inside and they communicated very well with myself prior and during the stay to ensure we had the best time possible. Plenty of facilities and decorated very nicely.

The stairs leading up to the apartment were rather run down and smelled strongly of cigarettes, however this did not cause much concern for us, as the flat inside was lovely . At 3am on our first night the neighbour directly across from us was music at full blast for a long period of time. This could be heard in all rooms apart from the bedroom so wasn't too disturbing as we were in bed. The owner of the apartment checked in after the first night, and advised us of actions to take if this continued. Then when we returned back later the next day the neighbour was screaming at the top of their voice and shouting in a very aggressive manner, this frightened us and did not feel safe so we decided to cut our stay short and leave before the final night. However, the owner has offered a partial refund for the lost night and was very apologetic despite this not being his fault- it's such a shame that this lovely apartment is being so strongly impacted by this specific neighbour.

INSTABLE AND AGGRESSIVE NEIGHBOUR. I strongly recommend not to go to this apartment because the neighbour will bother you screaming and banging on the walls and on the the door. We had this terrible experience and we had to call the police and to move to another place. This apartment should not be rented at all. Instead, the host rented it to us and he disappeared when we needed his help. We had to look for another place last minute without any help. Then we received a refund for the two nights we lost, but that’s nothing compared to how much all this scared us and complicated our stay.

The apartment it’s self was lovely, incredibly clean and provided everything you’d need, big bright windows that looked out to a wooded area

Upon us first entering the building, we was hit with an overwhelming smell of cannabis, which I understand it’s each to their own but it was so strong you could smell it at the front door, all through the building and even in the apartment it’s self, we were swiftly in and out the apartment and didn’t stay in there very long due to this. When we arrived back at the apartment about midnight we opened the front door and heard some very stern arguing and shouting, and only got louder as we climbed the stairs, turns out it was the neighbour in the room across and he was extremely angry screaming and shouting for about an hour we could hear every word from any point of the apartment

Pros: • homey place • quiet surroundings • kitchen stocked with seasonings, tea, coffee, as well as small appliances and kitchen utensils • comfy lounge area • perfect for 1 person, good for 2 people, but not suitable for 2 adults with a kid • very nicely decorated • everything that was said to be provided was provided

Cons: • thin walls; loud neighbours • creaky doors • creaky, uneven floor • some walls need a new paint job • 3rd storey apartment with no lift & curved, narrow, stone staircase

The flat was small but big enough for two people. It was clean and in good condition as well as relatively quiet as it was facing a garden not the main street. The bed was comfortable and the location was great.

There wasn't a curtain on the window in the living room, no place to hang your towels in the bathroom (which was very small, especially for my 2m tall husband). The stairs leading to the apartment were steep (as can be seen in the photos attached) but manageable. Our biggest concern was the next door neighbour who was not mentally stable - luckily, we only met him a few times during our visit, but even when he was in his flat, we could hear him talking nonsense and sometimes even simply screaming which was very unnerving.

The place is very nice, very clean and cozy. The location of the apartment is perfect. All in all a good place with good value for money. I would definitely recommend.
