"Comfortable cottage close to St. Annes and Ribby Hall"

8.0

Location excellent for Ribby Hall with easy access to Lytham, St. Annes and Blackpool. Whilst the cottage is on the main road, the front garden ensures that you don't hear any traffic noise from the road. Short walk into Wrea Green centre for pub, restaurants/bistros and a spar shop. Buses to Blackpool/St Annes run Mon-Sat. Cottage itself was ok, comfortable enough with linen and towels. Usual stuff - microwave, kettle toaster, fridge, washing machine in the kitchen, enough crokery and cutlery for us. Lounge was compact but enough space for 4, dining table in the kitchen adequate for a quick breakfast. There is a parking space at the back which a small/narrow car would fit in. Didn't try with our old c-class, it might have managed, but parked on the side street (its a nice village, felt totally safe there). You wouldn't get an SUV in the spot.

Some of the lights were a multi-bulb affair, but some of the bulbs had expired. There was easily enough light in the room with the ones that were working but would be nice to have them all working. No visible instructions for the central heating, so had to work it out. It was necessary to switch it on given Storm Amy. Handwash in the bathroom was almost empty and could have done with a new scourer in the kitchen. Overall it didn't ruin our stay but we'll be sure to bring those things next time.

"Ideally located near Ribby Hall."

7.0

Close to Ribby Hall where the rest of the family were staying.

Steep narrow stairs made this an unsuitable stay for my elderly blind mother. I should have read previous reviews more carefully. We had to rearrange our family bedrooms at Ribby Hall in order to accommodate my mum instead. The extra 200 pound payment for cleaning was a shock. I have not at the time of writing had this refunded yet (7 days after checkout). This is not normal practice in my experience (we use booking.com a lot in UK and overseas). I hope it will be a seamless refund.

Carpets needed replacing, Lounge was stained, and walls were marked. Mattresses on two single beds were well worn.

"Avoid at all costs! Freezing cold, unhelpful host, and a poorly maintained house!"

1.0

The location was convenient, and the check-in process was straightforward. However, if you arrive in the evening, good luck finding the house—it was very dark, and the house number was only visible on a trash can (which is especially confusing for foreigners who expect house numbers on the building wall). The beds were ok.

As we arrived in the evening (around 22:00), the first night was unbearably cold. The boiler wasn’t working, and the window had been left open all day in 5°C weather. To make things worse, the key was rusted, making it difficult to close the window without breaking the key. I had to stay up until 2 AM trying to fix the heating, while the host was completely unhelpful and even accused me of breaking the boiler. Everyone, including a child, had to sleep fully dressed due to the freezing temperature. Host was making the experience frustrating and uncomfortable. When I requested a refund for that night, I was met with a dismissive response: "We advised you on how to fix the boiler and sent instructions, and you advised they were warming up—therefore, the issue was resolved." The host's attitude was unacceptable and made the experience even worse. Beyond that, the house itself was poorly maintained—TV was very old, walls were in terrible condition with peeling wallpaper, and the stairs were dangerously steep, making it difficult for my elderly grandmother. There were no charging outlets near the bed, so I had to charge my phone either in the kitchen or hallway, which was really inconvenient. To top it all off, they required a £200 deposit, which they only returned after I texted them to remind them—three weeks after my stay!
