"Perfect host, perfect accommodation, perfect stay!"

10.0

Where to start? We arrived to be greeted by a lovely young man who explained that his mum (Gillian) had unfortunately hurt her foot and she was sorry she wasn't available. He however, advised us that our room was ready and if we needed anything we were to just ask. We stayed in the family room and WOW, what a stunning space. The room has a large double bed (possibly King size) which was very comfortable with good quality bedding and pillows, a single bed (not required as we managed not to fall out with each other) and a sofa area which I think may have been a sofa bed. The television had all the streaming services available. There is a kettle and coffee maker (and ample tea, coffee, hot chocolate and milk provided) in the room and and a small fridge to keep milk and water cold. There is ample hanging room and drawer space, an ironing board, iron and hairdryer and plenty of extra bedding/pillows/blankets if required. The bathroom was beautiful and clean and there were enough good quality towels provided as well as shampoo, conditioner and body wash. All bases have been covered, we did not have to ask for anything... everything we needed was there. We were staying for four nights and there was 8 breakfast selection cards (4 each) which were to be completed and left in the breakfast room, The selection for breakfast was extensive, again nothing missed... bacon, sausage, black pudding, tomatoes, beans, eggs (fried, poached or scrambled), hash brown, potato scone. We made our selection and also selected a time to suit us. On our first morning we went to the breakfast room and our table was set ready for us and we finally got to meet the lovely host Gillian. She advised us that there was coffee already in a pot and to help ourselves, tea was available via a hot water machine and tea bags, fruit juice was in the fridge along with cow milk , oat milk and bottled water. Cereals, yoghurts, fruit and croissants were also available!

Nothing.... I am continuing what I liked because there was not enough space provided. Again everything you could want was available (apart from Decaf options but we had brought our own as we aware this is a often a problem). Gillian brought out our selected cooked breakfast and it was cooked to perfection, everyday it was delicious and fresh. We got chatting to Gillian, she is a delight and is rightly proud of The Old Mill. We were given the history of the building and were able to look at the renovation books and my god have they transformed an old derelict building into a beautiful home and accommodation whilst keeping as much of the original features as possible. We stayed at the Old Mill over the new year period and enjoyed the Biggar celebrations (torch light procession, bonfire and pipeband) but due to the wonderful accommodation the Old Mill provides we spent a lot of time just relaxing in the room and going for walks (to the pub). Honestly cannot recommend this place highly enough and Gillian is a treasure who obviously works hard to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hospitality to all visitors. Thank you Gillian and team, we hope to see you again in the future.

"A welcoming and much needed restful stop off!"

10.0

Fantastic overnight stay on our way home to Lancashire from a day in Edinburgh. The host, Gillian, was extremely hospitable and welcoming and even arranged for our room to be ready early so we could check in on our way through to Edinburgh and drop our bags off. The family room was perfect for a family of four, with really comfy beds. The tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits were a welcome treat when we arrived back after a long day out. There was also a mini fridge in the room which was stocked with water bottles and milk sachets, this a really nice touch too. Gillian prepared the most amazing breakfast the next morning at the time we had chosen. Tea, coffee, yoghurts, cereals and juices were also available. The mill has been renovated to an exceptional standard while keeping the original features in situ, like the big wheel and all the parts of the old workings. It’s a beautiful blend of history and comfort, and made our stay feel truly special. We would absolutely stay again if visiting this area in the future.

"A Perfect Home from Home with Nothing Lacking"

10.0

Absolutely super stay here; the room was very spacious, well decorated and pristine (photograph la do not do it justice.) The bathroom was a good size, well equipped and again pristine. Facilities were outstanding including a well stocked hospitality tray, good coffee, tea and hot chocolate etc. The added bonus of good quality dog blankets, towels and bowls plus treats and other essentials really added to the overall value. Breakfast was also excellent, good selection and well cooked and the hosts could not have been kinder or more helpful. We won’t be staying in Edinburgh again, we’ll stay here and drive in. We couldn’t fault a thing - thank you 👌
