Sundown Lake Hotel & Spa

Beautiful rooms, stunning view, the staff were amazing. We were treated my royalty. The woman who worked there saw we had nothing to want for. Her food was amazing. Perfectly local to everything, loved it.

What a special place this is to stay in, it was absolutely perfect. The view from the bungalow overlooking the pool with the lake in the background is fabulous, an incredibly relaxing place to stay. One of the nicest pools to swim in. Location is fantastic for enjoying a safari, or walking down to the local restaurant for dinner at the lake. We really enjoyed the breakfast provided each morning, sampling different Sri Lanka breads and pastries, the freshest fruit and equally delicious coffee. We also enjoyed a beautiful Sri Lankan dinner at sunset lovingly prepared by Sasini which I would highly recommend. Wished we could have stayed longer.

Sundown lake was set in a wonderful location overlooking the lake, the pool was brilliant and everything just as pictured. The cabin was amazing, clean, comfortable and had a mosquito net around the bed which was definitely appreciated! The outside bathroom was private, spacious and was lovely having a shower outside of an evening. The breakfasts were amazing, soooo much delicious food! And one evening we had dinner cooked for us and that too was fabulous. The staff were extremely helpful and helped us to arrange all our activities whilst in the area after we arrived. They also arranged our transfers to and from them with complimentary stops at attractions on the routes.

Honestly the stay overall was amazing. Just a little feedback would be maybe for the hotel to consider stocking a mini bar as there was a fridge in the room but nothing in it, or maybe offering a limited drinks menu for around the pool as it was so lovely to come back and relax there after being out on activities and a sundowner cocktail or beer would have gone down a treat and generate more income for yourselves!!

We had a fabulous stay at sundown celebrating a 40th during our stay, they went above and beyond to make our stay extra special. The room is comfortable and the pool is so lovely to cool off after a busy day . Thank you so much.

There’s nothing we didn’t like

Excellent two night stay at this gorgeous boutique location. Just three cabanas make for a very peaceful stay. The layout is very thoughtful so each cabana has plenty of privacy. Loved watching the sunset over the pool and lake. Amazing hospitality throughout from the small team and great dinners. Great location - very short walk to habarana with plenty of shops and restaurants and 100m from the lake which has a great footpath around it and an excellent seafood restaurant.

We had a wonderful stay! The staff were incredibly kind and accommodating, supporting us to plan and enjoy our trip. The food was one of our favourites of our trip - authentic sri lankan food, and incredibly tasty! Beautiful view and such an enjoyable stay.

Sassini and the staff take really a good care of the place. The food is delicious! So fresh, tasty and authentically home made with love! The rooms are very clean and always tidy. The cabanas are simple in their designed but perfectly matching with the location.

The cost of the double bed cabana was slightly overpriced. You need a car cause it’s not immediately next to the village centre which is also good because the location is very quite. The New Year’s Eve party which was organised upon request of some guests didn’t meet the standards. My suggestion for next year would be to keep it simple and more authentic. No need for western music or food. Sri Lankan food is the best option !
