The Coorie Inn @ Portobello, Edinburgh’s Seaside.

Was a great location. Buses on the doorstep. Cosy enough for me. Didn't meet the host, but I was out all the time.

Nothing to really dislike

Cozy wee room, with sofa-bed, microwave & kettle. tastefully furnished. Doors open onto the patio garden at the back,which I imagine would be nice in the summertime. Quiet and convenient for bus stops to get you into town.

Coorie Inn @ Potobello is located a short bus ride from Edinburgh Castle.  Two bus stops are conveniently located several minutes away. The hostess, Barbara (aka Bee), is affable and knowledgeable about the area.  Several times, she offered to go with us to town, and act as our guide.  She was quite helpful assisting us learn the mass transit system. Unfortunately, there are some facts that may negatively affect your decision to rent this unit.

The private bathroom is separate from the bedroom.  To access it, you have to cross the house’s main entryway.  You will need to take your toiletries and change of clothes with you, when showering in the morning. The room has no lock from outside the room; however, there is a latch for use when you are in the room.  Your property is fully accessible to anyone visiting, when you leave for the day.  When we were present, we elected not to latch the door.  During our stay, other guests were allowed to stay in the house, which was especialy awkward when preparing in the morning, as others were exiting the house.  Early one morning, we were a bit disturbed when a utility worker walked in on us without knocking, even though the room’s door was closed. You really do not have access to the kitchen.  Any time we wanted drinking water, we needed to contact Barbara, and she would get it for us.  This was inconvenient, as she is not always readily accessible.  We also never felt as if restaurant leftovers could be stored. The bedroom (really just a room with a sofa bed) is cluttered with extra chairs, stools, artwork, and Coorie souvenirs, to the point where it is a difficult to find room for the visitor’s luggage and personal items. The bed is a sofa bed.  It is not comfortable.  When open, there is no room to move around it.  If two people share the bed, and the one furthest from the door needs to get up, he or she will need to climb over the other – with some difficulty. The unit is advertised as having access to a washing machine.  What is not disclosed is that you can't do your own laundry.  Barbara insists on doing the laundry.  Of course, this puts you on her schedule. In summary, the rental is not an apartment, it is a room.  It has some benefits (including access to a back patio), but in my opinion, there were substantial drawbacks.

Lovely little place. Very cosy with nice decor and garden/patio area. Very much up our street! Close to Musselburgh and a bus stop just over the road to get to Portobello sea front bars and cafes. We did walk along on the first day. Very regular bus services into Edinburgh City centre.

Very convenient to get around city and a mystic mountain literally rights behind you!

Easy bus route to Edinburgh or portobello, or nice to walk along beach. Cozy decor, friendly host.

Not the most comfortable sofa bed

Location great. Portobello is fabulous and the ease of access via Bus into Edinburgh city centre was great

The sofa-bed is a tad uncomfortable but this is to be expected… too much clutter in the room made it difficult to do anything without having to move things out of the way… i.e. various Vases on top of the linen box restricted ease of access for the Duvet in the evening. Various foot stools cluttered the room restricting space when the bed extended. Pillows and sheets live in the small wardrobe so nowhere to hang clothes/jackets etc… However - the owner operator is absolutely lovely and her taste on decor is lovely - it’s just that there is a little too much stuff in a small room. Shower room perfect, good size room and very clean. We would go back though…
