Melody Surf Ekas Lombok

Perfect location, in walking distance of a wonderful beach. Beautiful set up and very kind staff. They also know a lot about the island and its culture.

Very nice people, Jaya gave us the information about the surfspots. Basic facilities were good. Price quality very good! Good and wide mosquito net. Cosy natural roof. Pineapple pancakes for breakfast were very tasty.

What a wonderful experience, from the moment we got to the property we were welcomed like family. Jaya, the manager of the property was so helpful with everything. Rangga the young worker as well. The room was awesome! Massive bed nice shower amd lots of room. Even with no AC we felt very comfortable. The location is so close to inside break and all the others. 3 min scooter ride. Overall I couldn’t recommend this homestay enough! Thank you to all the staff for the amazing experience:)

Loved how big the room was, nice quiet spot just outside of the main area, working wifi and drinking water. No AC was needed at night with the cool Ekas ocean breeze coming through the ventilated room, along with the fan. Actually ended up a bit cold during the night! Best to have a scooter or transport with the location (but if you are in Ekas, you should anyways), it’s about 10/15 min walk to the few restaurants and buy further to the beach, which sounds fine until it’s in that scorching dry ekas heat! I stayed in a second villa with family during my stay and surprisingly Melody had such little wildlife in the room compared to the expensive villa! Huge bonus!! (I think there are no places for the mice / rats / spiders to hide due to the large open room, so there were only geckos which is amazing). Cool shower was completely welcome after a long hot day in the surf, with great water pressure. Ridiculously quiet sleep, and such a stunning view waking up at sunrise looking over the farms! Really peaceful moments. My fav part.

All things that only mattered as I was a solo female traveller!! Not to worry if you aren’t alone. - whilst the location was really special, it was really isolating and a bit jading to rock up to at night - lace curtains! Please get some proper curtains like you had previously!! Couldn’t really see through them during the day, but when the light was on at night you could see through. I ended up hanging the blanket up on the window because I couldn’t sleep (totally isolated/not at risk of peepers but felt a lot more secure having it covered) - definitely overpriced for how basic it is there. I get that they can afford to up price considering how little options there are in ekas… but still, wild for the basic / run down rooms. Also charge 100k for boats to the surf when it costs 50k at the beach. Maybe they drive you as well? I just got the boat from the beach. - I personally had no network connection in the area, and wifi was really weak when it was working. Not usually an issue but a lot of spots in ekas have really good wifi now so would be great to see an upgrade if possible considering the price per night

The manager (Pak Jaya) is really friendly and accommodating: he provided a good motorbike, showed us around on day 1, and arranged for our laundry to be done. Unfortunately he's not onsite and doesn't come every day, nor does he come at a consistent time, so the experience is mostly down to the careless onsite staff.

1. Plain uncomfortable. When we arrived there was no mosquito net. The hut is not hermetically built so there are lots of insects and geckos inside the room; one evening we even caught a massive spider lurking near the bed. There are gecko droopings all over the floor, and before the mosquito net was installed, the droopings were on the bed too. Not a great experience, having to literally pick poop off the bed before going to sleep, and waking up with poop over you in the morning. 2. The onsite staff couldn't care less about customer service: - Breakfast is supposed to be at 8am but it's inconsistent, some days they're not ready to take orders until 8:30ish and even if they see you waiting at the breakfast area, they show absolutely no urgency to get ready. On our last day they established a new record: 3 guests in total, all were there at 8am; they took orders at 8:30am; it took them another 45mins to make 3 banana pancakes... - Several times, the breakfast banana pancake was spicy because they don't clean the utensils properly; happened several times again even after we told them. - They didn't give more toilet paper when they did the room as we were about to run out, so we ran out that day. When we came home after dinner and knocked on the staff door to ask for toilet paper, they just turned off the music and ignored us. 3. Small breakfast (don't take the omelet, it comes without bread so it's really not filling; go for the banana pancake). 4. No hot water, no amenities as claimed in the description (toiletries) 5. Internet works less than 50% of the time. Turns out it's not because of any technical issue out of the place's control, but simply because they're not topping up the credit. All in all, despite its rather low price point, the guesthouse is overpriced for what you get. We had a first booking for 7 nights and a second one for 3 nights.

We had a great stay in Melody. The rooms were basic but it was only opened recently so rooms and bed were new and comfortable. No need for air conditioning as it was cool enough at night. Perfect located between Inside and Outside breaks although you will need a scooter to get around which they organized for us but that is the same with most of Ekas. Jaja was an excellent host and Ranga was a great energy around the place. Any of our requests were met and always with a smile. Stayed for 2 nights and looked to extend but they were booked up. Still returned to see them at Melody even after we had checked out to play some chess, surf and chat. Even brought me to meet some locals and drink some rice wine. Would definitely return again and it is great to see some locals putting their own stamp on the area.
