La Casa de Joel

The room was a good size, really nice and clean with a little kitchenette with a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. Drinking water was provided. The host was super nice and helpful and very responsive answering all my questions very quickly.

Joel is a welcoming and attentive host. He's always around to answer any questions and made sure I had a comfortable stay. The location of the accommodation is excellent. The pier and Concha de Perla, as the center, are all within 10-15 min walking distance. The room was clean and has airconditioning. A good recommendation for a restaurant at 2 min walking distance: if you go out, take a left, then again first left and next to the mini market with the swordfish you find a nameless restaurant which offers good and afforfable meals (also vegetarian!) for 6-7USD cooked by a lovely lady.

One thing to be aware of is the noise from the neighboring karaoke bar at night (until 3 am is allowed). This is not something the owner can control, but it’s worth considering if you’re a light sleeper. I appreciated having drinking water available. One improvement would be adding a pump or dispenser, as the 10-liter bottle is quite heavy and not easy to pour from. Another suggestion would be to inform guests in advance before entering the room to empty the trash, just to ensure privacy and avoid any surprises.

Great place - almost like a home stay. Clean, no frills, simple place with nice linens and cold AC. We had 2 adults and one child and stayed in the left side of the building (there are two units) with three individual beds. Joel is the kindest man I met on the islands. He doesn’t speak great English and my Spanish is terrible yet his smile can cross oceans and we had zero problems communicating. He lives across the street with his family. He’s there for you for anything. I would stay there again and again. It’s much more low key and integrated than the tourist hotels near the beach. It’s close to great food, has a Mercado right next door, and it’s not loud since it’s a block or two off the main drags. We checked out early but he let us keep our bags there and use the extra bathroom to shower and clean up before our afternoon ferry which was a huge win. Note: He prefers cash instead of cards even if it says they take visa (can’t remember). At these rates and because you want to support people like Joel, I was more than happy to hit the ATM and draw out more cash for our stay there. Can’t recommend this place enough unless you’re looking for a ritzy instagram worthy hotel for 5-10x the price closer tk the beach.

All was perfect

Uns hat alles super gefallen. Das Zimmer (wir waren in dem 3 Personen Zimmer) war super sauber und hat unsere Erwartungen übertroffen. Joel ist super lieb und war immer sofort zur Stelle wenn wir Fragen hatten. Er hat uns sogar kostenloses Wasser bereitgestellt. Das war super! Gleich daneben ist ein kleiner Supermarkt. Das war echt cool!

Ein paar mehr Kochtöpfe, Kochutensilien und Öl wären toll gewesen. Wir haben trotzdem all unsere Gerichte kochen können, daher gibt es nichts auszusetzen.

The location made getting everywhere easy and the host was fantastic.

Great location between the port/snorkelling spot and the town. The room was basic but had air conditioning and was perfect for our stay.
