Mateus House - Porto da Cruz Center

We had such a wonderful stay at Mateus House. The location was perfect for exploring the island, and the house itself was even bigger than the photos suggest — clean, tidy, and equipped with everything we needed. The rooftop was an unexpected bonus and made the stay even more special. We loved eating out in Porto da Cruz, but also enjoyed a cosy night in making garlic prawns with fresh bread and a cold vinho verde. Rodrigo and his wife were incredibly hospitable — warm, friendly, and great at communicating. They gave us excellent advice for places to visit, making our trip even better. We also enjoyed saying hello to the local cats each day. Porto da Cruz is an ideal base for exploring Madeira. From here, we visited some unforgettable spots: • PR9 Levada do Caldeirão Verde • The natural outdoor pool in Seixal • A misty and magical hike through Fanal Forest • A peaceful stroll in Porto Moniz • PR1 Pico do Arieiro to the Manta’s Nest viewpoint and Stairway to Heaven • A fantastic surfing lesson with Salty • A leg-stretching walk at Ponta de São Lourenço before returning to town For food, we highly recommend Baia do Bago down near the seafront — delicious dishes with a lovely view. A Pipa, just around the corner, was another great spot we enjoyed. We even squeezed in a fun toboggan ride with the Carreiros do Monte after a stroll up the side of Funchal — first ones down! Overall, Mateus House was the perfect place to stay — comfortable, welcoming, and ideally located for both relaxing and exploring. We would happily return.

La maison à étages avec escalier safe pour un enfant de 2 ans et demi La terrasse est géniale Les chambres sont spacieuses et propres Avec rangement La Cuisine est fonctionnelle Le séjour est bien sympa aussi s’il pleut par ex. C’est une ancienne bâtisse entièrement rénovée avec charme.

Rien à dire

Bij aankomst waren de eigenaars aanwezig. We kregen verschillende geschenken (brood, drinken en koffie) en er zijn kruiden, olie, afwasproduct en een klein afwasmachine aanwezig (ook een kleine airfryer). Alles was super net. Ook surfplanken zijn voorzien (golfsurfen). De omgeving is geweldig, en op het terras zitten is super! Prachtige uitzichten en dicht bij verschillende wandelingen (half uur van Funchal en 15 min van luchthaven). De bakker op het plein, een kleine supermarkt aan de kerk en restaurants aan het strand/zwembad. En het weer is ideaal (zoals gelezen houden de bergen de wolken vaak vast waardoor het bewolkt kan blijven in het noorden, maar dat het op 15 min rijden in Machico zonnig is om op het strand te zitten).

Enige kleine nadeel is dat de groepen die de rum-destillerij komen bezoeken héél luidruchtig kunnen zijn. En dat de poort 's morgen met véél lawaai geopend wordt vanaf 8u30 (vlak naast de slaapkamer).

Die Lage direkt am Meer war fantastisch und Rodrigo als Gastgeber ganz besonders zuvorkommend. Das Haus war mit allem ausgestattet, was man braucht. Es fehlte an nix. Besonders mochten wir die Dachterrasse, das komfortable Badezimmer und die Scooter.

Tagsüber waren viele Menschen im Ort aufgrund der Rumbrennerei direkt nebenan. Abends hat man dann aber wieder seine Ruhe. 🙂

Wir hatten eine wunderschöne Zeit in Mateus House!! Die Wohnung bzw. das Haus ist toll eingerichtet und total sauber. Von der zur Wohnung gehörenden (wunderschönen) Dachterasse hat man einen tollen Blick über den Ort. Es hat absolut nichts gefehlt - die Ausstattung lässt keine Wünsche offen. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und würden jederzeit wiederkommen. Dankeschön für die tolle Zeit!!

De ruimte en de locatie. Het dorpje is fijn om in te verblijven. Je bent zo bij de kust, en bij de eettentjes. De bakker zit op nog geen twee minuten afstand. Het dakterras is fijn. Het appartement is van alle gemakken voorzien. Er is een vaatwasser, wasmachine, zwemhanddoeken etc. Er is een zwembad kortbij. De entreeprijs hiervan is niet duur. De restaurants: the Wave en Baja do Bago waren heel erg goed. En de pizza night op de hoek was ook leuk om te doen.

Alles wat je maar kan bedenken was aanwezig. Overal was aan gedacht. Het is schoon en netjes. Het is comfortabel en een mooie locatie vlakbij de kust. Op het dakterras staan fijne ligstoelen. Fijn dat er ook een wasmachine en kleine vaatwasser aanwezig is. Bedankt!

Helaas was het slecht weer en waren precies toen wij er waren veel restaurantjes dicht, dus we konden niet zo genieten als gehoopt... Maar niks aan te doen!

The location is absolutely perfect! 😍 Nestled in nature in the beautiful and peaceful northeast of Madeira, just a 15-minute drive from the airport. The house itself is modern, stylish and comes with a private rooftop terrace offering a stunning view. The owner welcomed us personally and was incredibly friendly and hospitable. He had prepared many things for our arrival and was always available via WhatsApp for any questions, which is very attentive and helpful. There were even scooters and surfboards in the house that we could use, which was a great bonus. Within walking distance, you’ll find restaurants, cafés, a supermarket and a beach.So everything you need is close by. All in all, I can wholeheartedly recommend this place. The combination of the amazing location, the modern house with a rooftop terrace and the friendliest host I’ve ever met made our stay truly special. Thank you, Rodrigo!☺️

This was one of the best stays I’ve ever had with a private host. The property is amazing, and they thought about everything you could possibly need from scooters to get around the village to a surf board, they even left some local treats as a welcome gift, which was such a lovely gesture! I was very pleasantly surprised and would definitely recommend this stay to anyone.Rodrigo has also met me personally to show around and was a great host. Thank you!

We had a wonderful stay at this apartment in Porto da Cruz, Madeira. The location is perfect, just 30 meters from the beach, allowing for easy access to the sea. The apartment was impeccably clean, with a fresh scent of cleanliness and laundry upon arrival. The kitchen is exceptionally well-equipped, providing everything needed for cooking, including pots, utensils, a blender, hand mixer, juicer, toaster, and more. This made preparing meals a delightful experience. The owner was extremely accommodating and went above and beyond by providing surfboards and wetsuits, which added an extra layer of enjoyment to our stay. The terrace is furnished and perfect for enjoying meals outdoors, enhancing the overall experience. We highly recommend this apartment for its prime location, the owner's kindness, and the ample amenities available. It truly made our stay in Porto da Cruz memorable.
