Chestnut Tree House with Hot tub & Sauna

We stayed at the Chestnut Tree House for our trip to Wales for the experience. We did arrive quite late into the evening during Autumn, so it was no longer light. The tree house was relatively easy to find even in the dark, thanks to the videos and instructions provided through WhatsApp. We picked up firewood from the small house as you enter, then drove up to our tree house. The keys were on the bed on arrival. The treehouse itself is nice and clean, the bed is comfy and the information given about the surrounding area (such as takeaways) was useful for us as we had never been to Wales previously. Be warned as you will most likely not want to keep leaving and driving back up to the treehouse as the roads are quite steep and thin. So maybe get some food/snacks/drinks before going. But we managed this even with a Fiesta. The fireplace in the room itself was very nice and easy to use. You are given videos on how to use the fireplaces, again, via WhatsApp. The views outside the room in the morning are beautiful and I'd recommend taking a small wonder in the surrounding area to see it. The bathroom was also clean, functioning toilet, and a small kitchen with a gas burner to use with a kettle. You're given a few firelighters to use but I would recommend bringing more/a lighter in case you run out. Also, bring a torch! The path leading up to the room is dark and relatively steep. When leaving, you just leave the keys in the room again, you don't have any contact with the host. Only via text. They did answer any questions we had. Overall, the views were beautiful, the room itself was nice. I'm glad we had the experience.

The lights for the path leading up to the room, and outside the room, are solar powered. Meaning, they weren't working in the dark when we arrived. We had to use the torch to go up the path, and to see anything outside of the room (there is no outside lighting that isn't solar powered, so it is pitch black in the dark and around the hot tub). There were more light switches inside the cabin but they didn't seem to do anything, I thought they would turn on some outside lighting but they didn't. Luckily we had brought some fairy lights that were battery powered, to use outside. The instructions given for the hot tub were different to the hot tub we had. We hadn't ever used a wood burning hot tub before. We were told the method was the same, but to us the set up was totally different. We tried 3 times before ultimately deciding to stop. I would recommend getting it preheated so you don't have to figure it out yourself. The shower also had no hot water, so I wouldn't stay here expecting to shower in the morning. The sink had a small leak.

The setting was fantastic and the hut was great. We went in November so expected the cold. Unfortunately the shower had run out of gas before we arrived so no hot water on night one. It was swapped for us on day two so then fine. Because of the cold (-3 on first night) the hot tub fire could not heat the water past tepid, so after 3.5hours of maintaining the fire we gave up. The sauna was brilliant. We used that both night and heat was not a problem. We had taken some dry timber as it was our first stay there and unsure of the quantity available. As it happened there was plenty of wood. However it was all wet, so once our dry supply had gone we could not get a fire to keep alight on the last day due to the wet wood failing to burn. Overall we had a lovely stay and will likely return in the warmer weather 😂

Nothing to dislike really.... just the timber being wet was the main issue that without our dry supply we took with us would have been much more of a problem.

Absolutely stunning location. Stunning cabin with everything you need for a night in the wilderness. So beautiful and peaceful. Spotless, comfortable beds. Plenty of firewood to heat sauna and hot tub. Great host with excellent communication . Will most definitely be returning!!

A few things weren’t made clear before booking - no drinking water, lighting the fires for the sauna and hot tub yourself, providing your own firelighters as they only provide a few. We paid for a birthday package that, sadly due to a staff emergency, was forgotten about. This included a cake with candles and balloons, which I would’ve sorted myself, so that was disappointing - I did get refunded in full. We also asked for the hot tub to be preheated (this is an extra charge), which it was, however even though we arrived at the time we said we would, the fires in the hot tub and sauna had gone out already meaning we had to relight them ourselves which wasn’t really the point of asking them to be sorted for us! It would’ve been a lot easier to have just kept them going.

Perfect peaceful hideaway spot for the night up in the trees, sauna, hot tub and cabin was surprisingly spacious with a very very comfy bed. Shower was decent too and full flushing toilet. There is a camping stove in the cabin to boil water or cook something very simple in a saucepan which is perfectly fine for a night or two. The sauna was still a bit warm from the previous guests so didn't take long for it to fire up. Hot tub got nice and toasty too and we had used one many times before so knew the trick to get it heating the water. There is an info folder in the cabin with useful information and the directions given by the owners were perfectly clear and easy to find. Although the weather wasn't the best that night, we enjoyed our chill out stay very much, we both lead very stressful jobs and a night here felt like a weeks holiday and will be returning again for sure.

The fairy lights leading up to the cabin were not working or maybe just lack of sun as I think they are solar powered but would of been nice to have these working as it is pitch black in the dark so make sure you have a torch or use your phone torch but no big deal.

Location is fantastic and easy to find thanks to the informative videos sent by the host. The location is very peaceful and perfect for those who want to get away from everything and completely chill out

The only disappointment was that the instructions, both written and videos, for lighting the hot tub to get it up to temperature are outdated. The old way seems far easier than the new method.
