Tifkira (The Memory)

Charming and authentic, right in the heart of the beautiful old town. A great bathroom! The location is fantastic—just a 5-minute walk to the ferry to Valletta, yet still quiet. All the essentials were provided; the air conditioning worked perfectly, and there were no power outages. We felt very well informed by our host in advance.

An extra fold-out bed was available for our daughter, but unfortunately it was in poor condition and not very comfortable. There were only two chairs at the dining table, so the accommodation is probably better suited for couples.

Living area basic,little natural light and lacking in comfort. Felt neglected, very old newspapers still there, and a pair of broken slippers, lamps without working bulbs.

Many lights did not work. Could not use terrace in evening as no lights worked. Some Areas were not very clean. Taps in bathroom very grubby, bed frame very dusty, bed linen stained. No corkscrew supplied.

A beautiful, authentic and rustic place full of character. Everything about the stay felt special, and it really delivers if you’re looking for something real rather than a modern, generic apartment. The space is huge for a couple, which makes it feel even more relaxing. There’s also rooftop access, simple with just two chairs and a table, but we had drinks up there and it was really pleasant and private. The location is brilliant, we were delighted to realise that the ferry from Birgu to Valletta is literally at the end of the road, less than a 5-minute walk from the apartment, which made getting around incredibly easy. We’d seen reviews mentioning it could be cold, but that’s clearly been addressed, there’s extra bedding and two heaters, and it was extremely cosy during our stay. Overall, an amazing place. Don’t be put off by other reviews, this is an old building with charm, not a brand-new hotel, and that’s exactly what makes it so good.

There were just a couple of small issues, the shower head broke and we didn’t receive a response at the time. The host has since explained they were in hospital, which we completely understand and appreciate, though having a backup contact or number in place would be helpful for situations like this. The water pressure was also a bit low, and there wasn’t quite enough hot water for a full bath. For an even better experience, it would be great to have a few thoughtful touches on arrival, bottled water in the fridge (especially as shops were closed and tap water isn’t recommended), a few tea bags with some milk, and slightly fresher bedding.

The Location was good, it was easy to find and it was unique

The furniture was incredibly old, broken, and not tended to. There was a potent odor coming from sewage and furniture. The place was not insulated and all the noise and temperature was easily transferred inside.
