Metropolitan - 203 Millbrook Road

The location is quiet which makes it lovely for getting a good night's sleep. Modern and clean property.

The sofa was uncomfortable (not enough cushioning). The double bed was uncomfortable (can feel the springs in the mattress). But the single beds were comfy. The wifi signal does not carry to the second bedroom (single beds). It was ok for the short stay (long weekend) we spent there.

It was quiet

On arrival the kitchen was filthy. I had to go and buy cleaning products and clean it myself as did not hear back from the hosts until the next day and needed to cook. Hairs and dirt in the fridge. Crumbs and dirt in the cupboards. Only one key provided in the lock box and you can’t lock the door from the inside without it so if one of us got home before the other we had to wake up and let them in. Were told by the host we could pay to have a key cut ourselves but they wouldn’t provide one or cover the cost. The double bed mattress is paper thin and you can feel the bars poking through from the metal bar bed frame with every move. The dining chairs are filthy and stained, and the sofa was the same on the ends and I had to screw the legs in as none of them were attached properly. For the money they charge, I would say this place is daylight robbery and would not stay here again. See pics for examples.

The decor and overall presentation was nice. The house is at the end of a street so it was quiet. Water pressure was good and hot water was quickly available. The flat is warm and heating was on throughout our stay.

The split level and stairs are situated between the two bedrooms. For a short stay, with a toddler who does come through to parents during the night, we felt there was nothing in place to make this situation safe. There is a 1 inch drop from the kitchen to the landing, at which point there is the set of stairs to the main door on the left and 2-3 stairs up ahead of you. There is no night light or stair gate, and we tripped here even in the daytime. We opted for one of us to sleep in a single bed with the toddler for peace of mind because we could see it would be so easy for them to be hurt trying to come through to us in the night. Cleanliness of beds and sinks etc was fine, but we had to wash every plate we wanted to use as there were food remnants. Every saucepan is scratched badly. There is black mould on the ceiling on the landing. We had some issues in the local area which were not the fault of the property, but did make us wonder about the location as non-locals.

Location is good is you happen to know Southampton. The street is calm, with all types of people as you would find in any large city. I have walked my dog at night every night and haven't seen anything concerning. It is peaceful as any other part of Southampton. The house is functional, even though it would benefit from some maintenance due to wear and tear, the price reflects what you get. Dog friendly home. Not easy to find one on these days. Thank you.

Mattresses do need to be changed, they ve lost the shape and you end feelings the springs. Beyond this, which is something quiet amendable, nothing major to mention.

The apartment is lovely and had everything we needed. 15 minute walk from Southampton Central station and very quiet at nights!
