Rustic, Basic Cosy Alpine Hut, in the middle of the Mountains but near road & Railroad

The remoteness was probably the best part along with the silence.

Need to know a heck of a lot sooner to bring food! Even milk! The hotel down the road was absolutely useless and Moana too far while Arthur's was closed! I felt it was a bit pricey tho for what it is.

Just as described, rustic cabin, great experience under the mountains.

The location was beautiful.. we didn’t mind the trains at all . Kind of cool and not that many., the little fire was amazing.. plenty of wood .. make sure you can chop .. Gary was a wonderful host and went over and above .. highly recommend if you like kiwi quaint .. loved it 😃 thanks Gary and Daniel

Could have done with some news paper to light the fire , I understand that could be hard to provide.. I can’t fault it

Fun little basic hut in Arthur’s pass. Had a great night cooking dinner and listening to old records on the record player. Had a nice fire in the pot belly stove in the morning.It’s exactly as the host describes. Very basic

I really like the instructions that the host gave us before our stay. So nothing was unexpected. We also liked the place because it has a good vibe and felt quite cozy.. the batch itself was quite old fashioned but that part we liked also. It was a good rest for one night! You could say that it is not the most convenient place to stay, but the atmosphere was really good. Also the place felt clean

All of the facilities were fully functional. The cooker, water, toilet, and fridge all worked well. Staying overnight had a camping feel about it.

The outside toilet would have been a pain in the rain at night.

Beware that the description of this place doesn't match the place. After we booked the owner warned us that the toilet was outside. Okay, am not fuzzy but upon arrival it turned out the shower is also outside. It's a covered crappy built expanded part next to the shed, immediately behind the entrance. Even that is fine, though when we opened the entrance door it fell out of the hinges, because the wood underneath had been visible rotten away. When we contacted the owner he lackluster told us the previous host had broken the door that morning and he had forgotten to tell us. Right. He was very accusatory that the former guest hadn't opened the door properly to the inside, while it was clear the wood had expanded and that would have been impossible to do. Because it was blazenly cold and it was superwindy outside, we couldn't take a shower without everything would have blown away, and already been frozen to the bone because of the weather. Also for the stove the firelighters where nowhere to be found. And the lockbox where the key was stored in was so old and stuck I had to cram it open with a rock. What was more disappointing is that when I asked the owner for some compensation, he said he would think about it and then just ignored me, as he also ignored Booking.com when I complained with them that his description of the place isn't correct. The location is nice but I was disappointed by the lack of hospitality and unresponsiveness of the owner.
