La Belle du Sud

Very nice family, excellent food, we were there for a week and never once had the same meal. The language barrier was a problem for us, but the owner's son was always available with English. He arranged a scooter and a wonderful boat trip for us at a fair price. Thank you to your whole family for a nice stay.

The warm welcome from the family, the peaceful nature of the village, the vistas along the paths and hills as you walk around the village, the beauty of the secluded beaches near Mourouk (the sea current can be strong). We especially loved the signposted walking trails along the hills and along the coast as we walked from Port Sud'Est as far as Anse Trou d'Argent. We were told that the hiking trail continues much further along the coast. The trail was breathtakingly beautiful passing along pristine secluded beaches, coves, rain forests, farms, villages, etc. (but bring hiking shoes or trainers and insect repellent). There was good breakfast too and the family can also prepare dinner for you at a supplemental price. But there are restaurants and cafe at Mourouk beach that are open until early evening and there is public bus to get there or you can also walk. We also discovered one of the very best sea food platters in Rodrigues at a small creole restaurant in Gravier. There are also lots of public buses to get to the various beaches and the family can arrange pick/drop off to and from the airport or beaches. And there are several (small supermarkets) corner shops in the village selling baguettes, snacks, beers, water or other essentials. We especially liked the peculiar sightings of small herds of cattle relaxing on the beaches. And if you're into kite surfing or snorkeling, then Mourouk beach is perfect as it is surrounded by huge lagoon with coral reefs and a variety of fish (but it can be windy with strong sea currents out in the lagoon). So it is better if you're a good or strong swimmer or ask for life jacket. You can also kayak to the many islets in the lagoon or hire a small fishing boat to bring you out in the lagoon.

Nothing as it was a very comfortable accommodation in a small village.
