"An unexpectedly disappointing one night stay"

4.0

Location of hotel was good. Room was quiet, bed was comfortable. Tea/coffee in the room good with opportunity to get fresh milk from the bar made explicit. Staff on site were overstretched (see below) but we could see they worked very hard and were friendly, well- mannered and approachable- a credit to their employers in fact.

Here is some feedback following our one night stay. With regard the heating, while we appreciated Jessica's attempt to explain how the radiator worked, it was in fact quite complicated and a bit confusing. Some basic instructions somewhere in the room would have improved our experience and saved staff valuable time when they appeared to be very busy downstairs in the restaurant. We noticed just before we went to shower at night that the bathroom cabinet was shedding its exterior coating onto the floor causing lots of flakes which got stuck to our feet.We sent an email including a picture of this to the hotel manager after our stay highlighting this and other problems as listed below and have not had the courtesy of an acknowledgement let alone a reply despite the fact that the hotel itself actively encourages the customer to leave feedback in this way. This is why we are posting this negative review on your forum because when we have had a bad experience we prefer to raise it locally as opposed to posting a negative review. We had one key on arrival that failed during the course of our one night stay and had to be reprogrammed which was another glitch. While rhe continental breakfast we opted for was good value, the service was quite chaotic. For example we ordered our drinks but they did not come and so we had to remind staff of this. When I contacted the hotel in advance of the stay in order to reserve a parking place via the booking.com email service I got no reply. So when I then tried to phone he was told staff were in meeting but I could leave a message and that they would reply within 48 hours. I did not bother and as it turned out there was plenty of parking for a Thursday afternoon arrival anyway Generally we would have preferred a more dedicated and personal approach to both room service and customer communication. The hotel's positive rating was not reflected in our experience.
